Apologies if this has been done already, but it seems seriously concerning that our current squad is very small and will need extra bodies next season.
Conventional wisdom is that you need 2 players for every position. At the moment we have got:
GK: Murphy (if he says - I guess he will), Burge - covered
DF: Clarke, Willis, Phillips, Haynes, Webster, Adams, Seabourne - presuming Christie leaves, we need an extra defender, preferably a solid CB or a competent RB
MF: Baker, Fleck, Thomas, Marshall (presuming he stays and Moussa leaves) - we are clearly seriously understaffed here, even assuming we will get 1-2 academy graduates.
CF: Assuming that Wilson is sold (a reasonable assumption) and the loanees Delfounso and Eccleston leave, we have no senior cover other than Billy Daniels - so we need THREE strikers!
The solution could be that James Bailey is likely to be available to plug one gap in midfield, but we will need several strikers and at least one senior central midfielder and wideman if we are to have any chance of putting out a reasonable squad.
The problem is up front for me. We've lost Moussa and Clarke this year and Thomas and Baker have gone off the boil. I'm not sure we've got the cash to adequately replace the goals we've lost and without them we look worryingly dodgy.
Isn't he out of contract, so his wages are £0 now?
Only really helps if he'll take a big enough cut to fit into our structure, and (though I've not seen him play for City) I'm not sure we should be spending loads on an old head, it never seems to work out for us (Sherwood, De Zeeuw, though of course Wise at the other end of the scale).
