Fleck, Barton and Thomas all have abilities that on its own would tick a box on a scouting report but the fact they all only have 1 decent attribute will be the reason they will never be able to step up to a top level club.. Fleck and Barton are very good touch players and Thomas is a very good athlete with size,, but that's all, Wilson and Christie have Pace, Power, Size and are natural athletes but not as good touch wise as Barton and Fleck.. One trick ponies we have the ones that are not have been sold and were sold for that reason, they have more to offer.. I like Fleck and Barton as football players, but the game is not about that no more ,, you have to be more than a good player..

Haynes from what i have seen will be able to step up not because i look at his ability alone he has the same attributes as Wilson and Christie and that is what will make him stand out to a scout who is looking at the multiple asset of an individual... So although i see the Fleck point i look at it differently.

Strange that quite s few scouts were hovering today, one in particular for the 3rd or 4th time since we've been back @ Ricoh. Could be coincidence but I don't think so, some managers obviously rate our young players!

Thought the youngsters did well. Maddison excellent and Willis has been our most consistent performer although not today. Haynes will be excellent part of Derbys side next year

I was close then. Awful comment from Pressley.

Haynes, Willis are very much known around the circuit as young players that have potential, don't be shocked if Haynes is next out the door for money to the championship...Shame but these players will all be in the shop window as the club has no other option other than to play them, the good thing is we do have a decent crop that are coming up.. Maddison, Harries, Kelly Evans twins, Lawton, Stevenson and Thomas all could be in with a shout of starts towards the end of the season...

That's a big worry for me, losing our youngsters - it's like continually having your girlfriend nicked by some other fella' - you invest all that time, money and love in them, and some flash bugger comes along with a few ££££ and they're off for pastures new . Seriously though, I keep looking at how we can get out of this downward spiral (not the current 6 game thing, but the overall rut) and for me, we need either SISU to stand firm and invest just a bit of cash to bolster the squad, then hold out for just one season withourt selling any of the youngsters so that we can develop a team. Whether that's with/without SP I'm not so sure, though SISU have snookered themselves(again) by offering the 4 year contract that means they must be squirming at the dilemma posed by our current run of form versus a potential pay out to SP?!

There is another quote by a Premiership manager who said there is little difference on the training field between players across the leagues. What sets the top players apart is the refusal to loose when they cross that white line on a Saturday and walk out onto the pitch.

got a lot in common with the last 4 or 5 managers when you end wondering if they were watching the same game as you.

The common denominator seems to be SISU then.

Yep, plenty of examples. David Bell after all, had all the skill in the world...

Kind of understandable too. If you could earn, say, £4,000 a week without really trying very hard, it must be kind of hard to motivate yourself to train to buggery on the offchance of rising through the divisions, rather than enjoying the good food, wine and fine women that your lifestyle can provide...

Exactly desire, work ethic, self belief, will to impose oneself, never-say-die attitudes are essential attributes for top level players.

Going back in my memory bank I think it was Frank Clarke ex Forrest and Newcastle understudy to the great Brian Clough....example he followed it up with was Adams at Arsenal, Jack Charlton when he was at Leeds.
