A few links with CCFC in tonight's show!

Good to see Michael ONeil winning manager of the year, but shame that 3 of the other mentions came in the section of sports personalities who have passed away this year!

I've tried to , but still don't understand why they pick up the ball up and run in to an opponent who is a yard in from of them and use up a tackle. I'll stick to footy and cricket I think I understand what's going on there!!

I've never heard of him either. Anyway Rugby League is just Union played incorrectly!

And rugby too. You are awarded a try when you are surely looking for a succeed.

Same as an up and under. Every time I see one, I see the ball go up for sure, but never see it go under.

Anyone involved with rugby is also either useless at numbers or have very bad memories, cos the only numbered player they seem able to name is the number 8.

They should have won team of the year, I was at the Super and challenge cup final, an increddible acheivement to win the treble all with the emotion of 3 club legends leaving at the end of the season.

Im a big tennis fan and that was a great acheivement but it was hardly a "team" of the year performance, Murray did it almost single handidly, deserved the top gong.

Rugby league is a marginal sport played in about 3 counties in England, and a bastardisation of the original game of rugby. It may be faster, but certainly ain't more skilful: pick the ball up and run as far as you can in a straight line at the opposition. There is never any incentive to pass the ball! I find it the closest approximation to American Football, admittedly without the persistent opportunities to top up your calorie intake!

Sorry ... should point out this wasn't copy-and-pasted from the Wikipedia entry for Rugby League.

Not sure what this has to do with Sports personality of the year, but thanks for sharing your views.

Clearly you think that union dominates public interest at domestic level, out of interest who was the last union player to finish in the top three of SPOTY solely based on his club level rugby, as Sinfield did this season?

Did Sinfield not play for (and captain) England then? If so, how can you suggest it is his club level rugby only that gained him the votes?

That being the case, how about Leigh Halfpenny being runner-up in 2013?

Leigh Halfpenny got second for kicking the Lions to victory in Australia and Wales to the 6 nations title, I dont think his 9th place finish in the Top12 that year and crashing out of the Heineken cup at the group stages had much to do with his selection by the SPOTY panel.

And no, Sinfield didnt play in Great Britains series victory over New Zealand, he hasnt played international Rugby League since 2013, so yes he is there on domestic merit, of a marginal sport played in about 3 counties.

How Joe Root wasn't on the nominations list is a mystery.

What, the world's no 1 batsmen in this country's national summer sport, who was player of the series in an unexpected Ashes win and has scored more runs in a calendar year than any English batsman ever? Don't be so ridiculous, it was on all on Sky...

Any with todays announcement that the BBC are pulling out of the contract to show F1, this means Lewis Hamilton wont get a nonimation either - even if he wins every race!.

I do wonder about about the word 'Personality' in these awards. Some of the nominees have about as much personality as my big toe.

Tyson Fury should have won it. Hands down the biggest achievement in the calender year and he actually has a personality. Murray won no major titles this year, won the Davis cup fair enough but that's a team effort.
