If it’s true Bling is skint, then I’d consider building the following as our spine for the rest of the season and playing them every game they’re available.

Dovin
Kitching
Thomas
Allen
Wright
Simms

Some may question Allen but he brings us a lot. Fantastic today and fantastic against Tottenham. Take any midfield pairing and he slots in perfectly as the 3rd man. We really need his experience and energy. Think he’s discounted by many as he’s not 1)Foreign, 2) young and 3) a big money signing.

Would also throw EMC in there but think you’re spot on.

Personally still struggle with Allen, like his energy. But offers little other than that imo. Lightweight & gets muscled off the ball to easily.

That said, we’ve not got much better and can’t see much in way of incomings with pedigree/experience. Seemingly need to hold out until summer.

That the reason I’d play him. In an ideal world we get an experienced CM in but I’m not holding my breath

Sounds like if you follow the ITKs that’s the only position we have funds for. So hopefully get one in but even if we do Allen did a lot of the crap work today brilliantly. No reason to drop him atm

We need a Bannan, Hodge or Pritchard type player.

Even if it is just off the bench to see games over the line.

If we’re relying on Allen until end of season I’d be worried. Could take him in a three with someone a little more robust, if it can be done this window. Bite is something we massively miss & it’s been obvious for last couple of years.

Good post, long been a Kitch and Allen advocate but proved correct once again

What I liked about kitching is first minute, through their player and then straight into a 50 / 50 with another.

I'm fed up of watching our players bottle everything all game.

I'd try Wright up front (in place of Simms) and EMC on the left.
But other than that I'd agree. And with limited options, MVE, Bidwell and Rudoni are also nailed on starters IMHO.

I think with MVE it’s clear he’s off latest in the summer.
I’d like us to start succession planning without him

But we've no other option (as of today) which is rediculous. I'd be very pissed off if we don't address that in this window.
Sure we could sell him and replace him in the summer, but if he gets injured now, we're in lumber.

He played through their lines on several occasions today and got us on the front foot.
Rudoni seemed to benefit from it more than anyone.

He's unfashionable, even though he's a pretty intelligent player who moves about the pitch really well. He's not rated by the type of clown who thinks Kasey Palmer is the golden goose.

Allen was excellent tonight. He's solid and experienced. He's got calmer with age.

He's not necessarily the answer, but like with Dovin, he should have played more games this season.

Edit: add Kitch to that. All three do the basics better than others who have played ahead of them.

I don’t think he was poor tonight, just not my cup of tea. Does a job when needed as per tonight, yet would like better.
I agree he’s 100% better than Palmer though.

To be honest I was worried a bit about the pushing match he got into with the player after his first tackle, I could see a red coming. I can't remember who it was dragged him away and calmed him down but after that he was OK.

Allen makes the quick decision on where he is going to pass, I think he usually knows already what he's going to do before he gets the ball. His passes are usually well struck and accurate but he can get bullied on the ball, he was earlier in the season and that nullified his game a lot.

People will say Allen is the type of player who “runs around a lot”.

Yeah, like the type of player every single team needs?

He is quite intelligent about where he runs, he tries to block dangerous opposition passes

Leading by example?
How often are we bullied by shit teams ?
Some call him a walking red card but I call it desire and passion, don't care if he's a horrible c##t off the field , just play him

Unlike the others we have his runs are usually constructive and when he plays the ball it generally goes where he wants it to. In the case of BTA that is a rarity.

Why is everyone creaming themselves over Allen?

We’re in dire straits if he’s the “spine” of the team.

He’s easily the worst of our central midfield options.

It's a sorry state of affairs if Allen is now an integral part of the spine after spending £45 million.

He put in a better performance yesterday than I’ve seen Sheaf and Torp put it all season.

Yes he does, no doubt about that. I think the point for me is that after spending the amount of money that we have we should be expecting more than just simple things and a football brain in our midfield.

Did he though?

It was a solid performance in CM but he didn’t do anything outstanding.

Sheaf is much better as a pure holding midfielder, think his problem these days is sometimes trying to do too much.

Torp has certainly put in better performances this season.

he did all the dirty and physical work, as well as providing the energy we’ve been missing all year

Allen has definitely added an extra dimension that we didn’t have because he’s a lot more energetic than Sheaf, Torp and Eccles. He was a good conduit for Torp and Rudoni in the 3 CM shape.

Good role player and has some leadership credentials the team badly needs but we definitely need to move on and upgrade on him in the summer.
