Collins
Kitching
EMC

Worth it for nearly £10m from L1?

To be fair EMC will be judged by the end of the season and his preferred position is on the left. Hopefully he proves himself.

But spending £10m on players who cant step up from L1 and make an instant impact is shocking. Kitching and Collins failures. Have we passed the valuable Vik/Gus money down the drain?

everyone keeps bringing this up. players come from lower leagues, think sporting fans were saying "£20m on a championship striker? he wont be able to do it here" ?

im aware vik and the players you've listed here are very different players, but the statement is still the same, we're not going to buy from the premier league, and were not going to buy top players from the championship. our pool is very good L1 players, and "unknown" players from lower leagues in europe (aka saka, hamer etc)

Gyokores was slated for quite a while when he first joined.

And this time last year people were suggesting selling Wright and Simms for a huge loss just to recoup some money, as they were "shit"

Collins looks a poor buy in the end but not calling time on the other two

That is a fair comment, you’d agree that team and individual performances need to improve over the next few games though?

November international break is a pretty good barometer

More concerning is we are the only club in the championship without any loan players

Ivan Toney was a very good L1 player. Collins wasn’t even first choice at Barnsley, Kitching looks overpriced and EMC looks like a fish out of water but time is on his side.

Can’t say I agree with this. Yes we can look at L1 but it has been our worst pool and we don’t sign anyone from lower leagues in Europe. They’re all top flight euro leagues

We signed Vik for £1m from Brighton a Premiership club. Worth the risk.

Gus came from top flight Eredivisie for £1.5m.

CoH was a free from Villa

Tatsu came from top flight Belgium Pro League for I think £2m

MVE came in from top flight Eredivisie for £3.5m

Torp £2m from top flight Norwegian league

Simms came from Premiership £3.5m

Bassette was playing top flight Belgium football for £2m

Rudoni was championship (although relegated) £5m

Wright £7m top flight Turkish league

BTA £2m from Championship play off rival

We’ve done some horrendous overspending on the L1 players in the last couple of transfer windows. Currently they look like L1 players.

Not saying all the above foreign signings have worked out but we payed more for Liam Kitching than MVE!

If you’re spending big in L1 you need to be signing U21s with potential.

ohare - wasnt playing for villa
vik - wasnt playing for brighton
sheaf - wasnt playing for arsenal
simms - wasnt playing for everton

we brought them in with limited knowledge apart from spells theyve had at previous loan clubs.

i personally dont value top flight norwgian/turkish/belgium leagues as "top" sides/leagues, theyre as risky as buying L1. you have no idea how a player will translate to the champ, just look at Rodrigues.

not all transfers will work out, we all said it was a waste of time buying Vik, and many on here werent happy with simms/wright, said they were overpriced etc, when they scored nearly 40 goals last season.

every club knows we've got a big wad of cash, and are going to demand higher prices.

EMC - its going to take time, bassette - its going to take time, its been 9 games, we had a shit start last season, shit start the year before, its not been great, but we're always so fucking pessimistic, all the time. get a grip and get behind the lads its doing my fuckign head in.

Did kitching and Thomas play many games together at Barnsley, because it looks like they don’t even know each other, signed from league 1 and playing like it, should we be that surprised ?

But it’s every season, we’re playing catch up all the time, that’s what’s doing my fuckin head in, so another building season then ? Get your point, but we’ve lost all our quality players that were able to turn those bad starts around, not sure this lot have got the same in them

i thought any idea of automatics were crazy at the start of this season anyway. sure we've got holes, injuries dont help, but i still dont think we've found the right mix of the squad we have anyway. theres plenty of negatives but theres still alot of positives.

wilson playing well again, dovin a great starter - thats refreshing.
simms/wright we know they can score alot of goal, you dont lose that.
we have bassette, who i think it an absolute raw talent.
MVE - incredible
eccles will always put in a shift
sheaf who we can rely on
saka is back, we thought he was gone for good
and although everyone sees it as a negative MR has a bolstered coaching staff, a performance director, and a owner that actually invests and cares

these are all the things we dreamt of a few years ago.

Gyokeres came from a Premier League team, not L1- did he have an “instant impact?”

Hamer if memory serves had people calling for him to be offloaded as a liability a few months after joining.

The very two players you’re holding up as where the money came from, who as we now see have great ability, both had pretty underwhelming starts to their careers with us, and had people on here saying “get rid”.

You’ve then said these guys we’ve bought cost £10m (when they didn’t), and are hanging them out to dry even though they came from a lower level.

Leaps, distortions all over the place on this one

If you've seen 'absolutely nothing' you haven't been paying attention. He's struggling in a side that isn't clicking or giving him a platform, but the pelters he's been getting on here aren't fair at all IMO. I think he will come good, provide assists and score goals.
