The City manager wants to get targets into the squad for pre-season ahead of the 2014/15 League One season...
Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has revealed the club has made several offers to transfer targets during the summer transfer window.

The City boss is still waiting to hear back from the offers on his transfer targets as he looks to strengthen the City squad ahead of the 2014/15 League One season.

The club started last season in a transfer embargo meaning recruitment was hampered on the lead-up to the 2013/14 season.

The City manager revealed he has already moved on some of his transfer targets as he awaits his first signing of the summer.

Pressley said: "We need a lot of players. We've put several offers to some players and several of those offers are out there at the moment. We're just waiting for a response.

"The players we've made offers to, have various options and they're mulling over their situations at the moment.

"We have to be patient as we have to make sure we get the right players in. The way we play requires a particular mentality so the players we bring in has to fit the Coventry philosophy."

During the 2013/14 season, City brought in several loan signings as injuries and suspensions took it's toll throughout the season.

The City boss has previously admitted he wants to improve the club's recruitment policy and it starts over the course of the summer.

He added: "This summer, we're going to have a really precise recruitment drive.

"I don't want to get to a situation where we're just bringing in players just fill spaces but rather a planned transfer policy.

"We want to get our targets into the squad so we start the season with players who have bedded into the club throughout pre-season.

"We're working very hard to do that and hopefully we'll see our efforts come off during the summer."

I think Prutton will be one, maybe either a really old experienced goalie to be a no 2 to Burge and hopefully some fooking strikers.

Reading that it looks like offers to players rather than clubs, does that mean more out of contract players?

I was thinking, 1GK, 2CB, 2FB, 1DM, 1AM, 1RM, 1LM, 2 strikers. And a new set of owners, please.

Probably, just like the vast majority of signings made outside of the Premier League.

Forest fans must be pissed off about getting Matty "He's Shit" Fryatt on a free too.

If they are serious in funding/progressing/helping/supporting/promotion then it would be nice to see the club invest in the team rather than lawyers (or do we get them on free contracts too). Yes we have picked up some decent players in the past but we cannot keep doing it and playing at Sixfields is not an attraction so to at least sign 1 or 2 decent players from a club who doesn't really want to let them go would at least show they are serious. Otherwise the knock on effect will start to show not just in the first team, but the reserves and the youth set up because lets be honest. Last season showed us that if we had kept Leon and signed 1 or 2 players rather than pick up scraps then top six may have just been achievable.

So you didn't read my post where I said that we have picked up some decent players in the past then?

We have also paid good money for shit players. Would you be happier with us paying silly money for Eastwoods every pre season or getting Leon Clarke's on a free?

So what is your point about free transfers or is it just something to moan about?

Why is it only ever some fans demanding we spend money on players, ironically probably the same fans who refuse to give SISU a penny and moan when we are in debt etc.

Reality check.

My point was in my last post about the frees we are likely to pick up now. Maybe if I was moaning about ACL charging us a huge rent then you all might not be taking such notice eh?

I agree we might not be able to pick up some gems for free now but still a few league one teams have not signed anybody yet.

If it comes to the start of the season and we have signed nobody then yes I will be there moaning with everybody else.

If we do sign players then we can give them a few games to see if they are Leon Clarkes or Mansets...

Slightly closer to the truth: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...teven-pressley-confirms-coventry-city-7282013 - 'couple' of offers, not 'several'.

Love this quote: '......as a football supporter you always enjoy the excitement of recruiting new players.....' - should be qualified by '...unless you're a disillusioned Coventry City fan with your team playing all its 'home' games 35 miles away in front of minimal crowds, with shady owners more willing to spend money on lawyers than players.'

On the day your no.1 keeper signs for Huddersfield, and Christie, Moussa and Wilson look like leaving you talk about 'excitement'!!!???

I must admit, I still get a bit excited about watching new players.

Granted it isn't going to see a player who has been in the world cup, but the last one was Mark Marshall.

The typical seasonal message of we have players lined up, we've made offers, we want them before pre season, they have to be the right quality, we have to wait till they're back from holiday, they have various options...

Good luck Pressley but Coventry in Northampton in front of tiny crowds isn't tempting for most players with ambition. It will be bottom of the barrel stuff.

Yeah, what are the club playing at. A big spread on the offal but no mention of renewing season tickets? Missed a trick there

Are we signing him on for longer? Or has he left the club?

If he's waiting to hear back from them they're probably in the same boat as us. Waiting for the outcome of the JR and what it means for the club so they can make an informed decision.

I cannot see any of these players agreeing to join until they are out of the tournament in Brazil. Surely their focus must be for their countries at this time.

Seems a bit silly to be arguing over the quality of players we haven't signed yet!

Jesus, I'm used to us jumping on a player before he's played, but before we even know who he is!?

Don't forget Cody 'Goal' Mcdonald

Can't believe SISU let a player of his quality leave us

Waggot

"at the moment with the World Cup there appears to be a little bit of a malaise in terms of movement,"

yep, your right Steve, only the 30 or so transfers in England since the World cup started a few days ago
