If that’s the alternative, get Southgate back in charge!

I would rather lee carsley than lampard and Gerrard if I'm honest ..

The 3 realistic candidates appear to be carlsey , howe and Potter

Hopefully whoever it is the country gets fully behind them for a couple of tournaments.

The noise around Southgate has clearly affected the camp and I don’t think it’s helped at all.

Southgate had his clear shortcomings but he’s our second most successful manager ever. We just have such a low bar that that success means still not winning anything.

It’s the right call to go now though. Let’s hope the next man can take us a step further.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
Southgate did a pretty good job overall. His win record was impressive and just his ability to remain squeaky clean and unflustered for 8 years took some class.
Expectation levels are silly every tournament and the press are toxic as usual. Good luck to any incomer.
One thing Gareth said amongst the latest carnival was that we are ‘An angry country ‘ and if you ever live anywhere else for any length of time you can see that he’s bang on with that.

His win record was impressive until you get to the point his record against top 10 ranked opposition was poor

Don't think Howe would leave Newcastle or the FA would cough up the compensation needed tbh. Would expect Potter or Carsley.

Potter has supposedly turned down quite a few clubs recently, I wonder if he's had an eye on this the whole time.

Tuchel being reported as an option. That would be a great choice for us IMO. More tactically adept than Southgate and has experience managing top players.

Man looked petrified when we were in trouble in games, nice guy but tactically inept and way out his depth at international level, can’t believe we’ve won nothing with the players available and the opportunities we had

I’m not a fan personally, he unravelled with the scrutiny of underperforming with Bayern, now magnify that with the expectation of England.

All the candidates being mooted, I have serious reservations they can deal with the expectation and pressure with the job.

The reality is, our fans have more or less hounded out the most successful manager we’ve had since Sir Alf Ramsey. The country will not settle for anything less than winning a trophy.

He won 4 KO games coming from behind. England had won 6 KO games in total before he took over.

Name another manager who has beaten the likes of Germany and the Netherlands in KO game?

Hounded out? Get a grip - his time had come - they stunk out these Euros from match 1 & getting lucky in most games - time for a change

He was hounded out, had plastic cups thrown at him after we topped the group.

He was clearly on the fence before the tournament started, that moment would have pushed over the edge.

I welcome the change because I’ve had enough with the narrative around Southgate and so has he. Time for another manager to come and fail and watch the country have a meltdown when they realise it wasn’t as simple as getting rid of Southgate.

Whoever takes it is going to have to be very mentally tough and also willing to the figure of scrutiny. Just look at the levels of abuse Southgate has faced while delivering us our 2nd and 3rd best ever tournament results. Manager of the England national team is certainly not a job for the faint hearted or easily rattled.

Another manager might come in & start playing players in their actual proper positions, make subs on time,be proactive instead of reactive, stop using dull negative tactics & instantly going into defensive mode after going a goal ahead plus stop insisting on playing their favourite players constantly

Putting aside what is a ridiculous comment to make… who actually cares? We won the game and that is all that mattered.

Seeing comments like ‘I’d be happy losing 3-0 if we actually went for it’ is just such a backwards mentality to have. Style of play is a means to an end: winning games. If you’re not winning games, you’re failing.

Cliche bingo full house here.

The players were played in the proper positions, barring TAA at CM for 2 games. The subs that made differences and Southgate culled all of his so-called favourites in this squad. Foden may prefer playing as a 10, but even this season he played more games as a LW/RW than he did as an AM.

Players have to adapt to different positions and learn how to play with different combos. We could go through plenty of examples where teams won tournaments playing different combinations. The next manager will have to figure out how to play Palmer, Foden, Saka, Bellingham and Kane together. That’s not even mentioning the likes of Gordon, Eze, Rashford, Grealish and an array of upcoming talent at our disposal.

The big thing that people should be talking about is the lack of patterns of play on the ball. In possession we too often were only comfortable shuffling the ball side-to-side with no real penetration. The two examples I saw out there was:

1) Gordon’s pass into the box that led to Palmer’s stoppage time chance v Slovenia
2) In the final where Watkins struggled to control a pass from Bellingham (I think)

If an actor can become president of a country and hold their own against the largest nation on the planet then surely its time for Mike Bassett to have a go for real?

Interestingly, Newcastle’s CEO has already politely told the FA the FA ‘hands off’ Eddie Howe.

That will be that then. Doubt the FA can afford to spend anything on a compensation package, let alone the millions they would demand.

It’s important to take a lot of time with this. The idea of Southgate being ‘hounded out’ is absurd however, the football was horrible to watch for years and completely unnecessary given the available players. The statistics we racked up in the tournament were testament to what some of us have been saying for a long time.

There is however nothing against him as an individual, despite disagreeing strongly with his tactics and interpretation of games, I think he carried himself with a lot of dignity.

His time at Chelsea looks better given what followed but...

I'd say currently he's more Hodgson level. Good manager able to get the best out of average players, but nothing to suggest he can do it with true superstars.

Maybe in time he'd show that, but it'd be a hell of a gamble to stick him in as England manager.

No idea but if Howe and Potter are the main choices I cannot see how its going to be progression from 2 finals, 1 semi final and 1 QF in the last 4. Still people want change so lets see what the change brings.

If you are playing well in games and dominate teams, you are much more likely to win. You play poorly game, after game, after game, your are more likely to lose.

What we were doing all tournament long, was getting a goal and then defending deep, thus constantly giving the ball back to the opposition.

We so nearly through it away on more than one occasion.

When we scored, we had the opportunity to hammer home the advantage and didn't

Honestly I’d give it to Carsley. The FA created the pathway for a reason and he won it with the youth so why not.

If it falls apart in two years then you give it to the biggest club name you can get no matter their nationality.

No way.

At least Southgate had some top level managerial experience before taking the job, and the team was at a much lower ebb then.

Giving it to Carsley would be a massive risk and a potential waste of a fantastic generation of players.
