Sometimes I wonder why I spend so much time looking on here to see what is happening. Then we have a thread like this that makes me laugh.

So what players that have signed to a club at our level or lower have we missed out on? Should we have joined in on signing squad players and not 1st team players? If we had there would have been much more moaning than there is now. Players are now out of contract. This is when they need to sign for a club or they will not get paid. If we have not signed anyone by the end of the month I will start to get very worried. But a fair few have said that they thought this is how it would go.

Pre season tours are all about team building. It doesn't matter where we go. We have the cheap local away games. Now we need a few games further afield. Does it matter if it is Germany or similar? Closer to home might get us a chance of more supporters. We only just managed to scrape double figures in Italy last year.

Perhaps if fans stopped cheapskating out of buying a proper top and patching together their own and spending a little more money, then perhaps we'd have a few extra pennies to fly somewhere.

As a few have mentioned, it really doesn't matter where we're playing, so long as we're playing.

I would much prefer play local friendlies. Why do we even need to go to Ireland? People say 'bonding'? FFS do people need to go away to get on? How about camping in Stratford upon Avon and play against all the local teams. For the big game ask our 'massive' giants in Villa or Lester to play us. Even Blues would be up for it or even WBA who TM knows.

Totally agree that there's no need for overseas friendlies. I remember as a young lad of about 10 years old being on holiday in Weymouth for 2 weeks(Wow) and after the first day camping with my Nan and Grandad, a massive Marquee was erected not far from our tent. Then the following day about 30 footballers turned up. It was Swindon Town on tour lol. Mike Summerbee, Ernie Hunt were 2 of their big names. I was allowed to get their autographs and have a kick around after they finished training. My grandad was given 2 tickets for a tour game against Weymouth FC. which he took me to watch the game with him. So, there's no need for big friendlies. Getting back to lack of signings, I've always given whatever manager was in charge, be it Coleman, Boothroyd, Thorn, Pressley etc, time to prove themselves. Lets give TM enough time to do just that.

Are they talking about trying to make this viable using the player budget they have for this season or extra money from SISU to fund a pre-season tour?

To be honest given that we will be getting players coming in well after the season has started I'm not sure there's a huge advantage to a pre-season tour.

What's the point in a tour for the squad to bond / "gel" when we haven't got a squad?

I'd be worrying about getting the players in first, otherwise we'll have the usual excuses after 5 games without a win of the team needs time to gel...

its all down to season ticket sales! IMHO! more we sell the more money that is freed up for TM to use on the pre-season bit of a chicken egg situation were not getting any more season ticket sales until he has signed some new players

If we're on a tight budget and as TM says a little extra money would make a big difference then think what 1000 extra season ticket sales could do. The ST sales are shocking really, if people aren't going to put money into the club how can they expect it to be spent?

We have no transfer embargo. We have a budget - League 1 style. We have a ground - at least to the end of the season. We have an experienced manager. We have a shop that is stocked. We have decently priced ticketing. I live abroad so cannot buy a ST ( can't get home enough to warrant it), but I am more optimistic than for years. I have faith that City will be up in the top six. I would even be happy for SISU if they can increase the value of the club.....

Ended season feeling really positive. Knowing tm might turn this shambolic club around.so far underwhelmed. As for only July is was important that the club showed intent to increase St sales and give a much needed lift to the club and the fans . and guess what they failed again.and i am not anti sisu.

Nobody's going to argue with you MQ, I think a lot of folks bought season tickets on the back of Mowbray signing alone thinking he wouldn't have accepted the job unless he was given the right assurances and budget. Now every day quotes from Mowbray seem to be less and less optimistic, I don't think he realised how difficult it would be to attract players with a wage budget of about 27p, then to hear him in the papers go from "the last few years haven't been good enough, I'm going to build a team capable of challenging" to "I hope we'll be competitive but I'm not sure" and "I've missed out on my 56th target but I'm hoping something may get done with one legged Barry from the pub team down the road" none of which fills me with great optimism.

Ive bought my season tickets, bought my shirt so the club have me over a barrel, if they want to press for 8k season tickets like there after they need to start building a squad that can compete in this league. It's all well and good the glass half full fans saying "it's only July" and "Come the start of the season......" But looking at our squad now, we have the same team that finished just above relegation last year with a few decent squad players been released, you'll have to forgive me for shitting my pants a bit

Well aware of our plight - most clubs take it for granted that they have a ground and are not starting under a transfer embargo. I am still more optimistic than for several years. We are not getting our first choice signings, but that is where we are. The game ( getting players in ) is by no means over and we do have an experienced manager at the start of a season - not had that for a few years. Yes, the situation is severe, but less severe than the last 3 years.

Im probably the most optimistic fan of the club, every season I think to myself "it's our year", this time though, worst case scenario, Mowbray misses out on his signings, starts the season saying "the loan window is open", then "We'll do business in January" and then we'll get a load of talk from the club about things moving forward and the process taking time before Mowbray eventually gets the arse and buggers off when a lower end championship club come knocking...

Based on the past, your prediction seems very realistic. You could even write Mowbray's and Waggot's December press releases for them now. But.... let's give it a chance. It is still early days and there is no law of physics that says CCFC always end up out of the top six. ( It only seems that way ). I am enjoying the summer and looking forward to the start of the season in the belief that it cannot be worse than the last few years..... - also a realistic prediction based on past history...
