A 20-year-old has written off his dad's £275,000 Gumpert Apollo after taking it for a spin in Germany.

He lost control of the rear wheel drive supercar on a sharp bend near Brokdorf, just north of Hamburg.

After the crash the driver's door ended up 100ft (30m) away and the car was described as a "total loss".

The man was driving with a 19-year-old female passenger and both of them walked away from the accident with minor injuries.

Police are investigating whether he was speeding when he lost control of the car on the 50mph road.

The Gumpert Apollo has a top speed of 225mph (360kph) and goes from 0 to 60mph in less than three seconds.

The Gumpert Apollo is one of the world's fastest super-cars

He might have just touched the accelerator for two seconds. Then he'd be under 50mph at the time of the crash. Three seconds, yeah he was speeding.

If you're stupid enough to give a 20 year old a 300k car you deserve for it to end up looking like that.

He can probably buy another one tommorow. Things like that don't matter to those sort of people!

It looks better smashed up. If I had close to £300,000, it wouldn't be spent on that.

Agreed - it looks like a dog's dinner - what a total waste of money - never heard of a Gumpert Apollo - where are they made??

Wonder what his insurance premium's gonna be now!

The Gumpert Apollo is a sports car produced by German automaker Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH in Altenburg.

It vaguely rings a bell from an old Top Gear. I believe its German.
