Just as a reflection on what has been happening behind the scenes. Vivash left abruptly. Two new coaching staff were brought in just before he left. They are advertising very late for a Vivash replacement, which suggest he resigned due to a strong disagreement. 7 years establishing our resurgence with Robin's and suddenly he is gone.
King is making waves at the club, and we are definately building a strong squad this year with good back up in each position, that I think is targeting automatic promotion. The new training ground improvements, the general feel about everything the club is projecting, is one of expected success. Even down to mentioning Robin's wants a quick start to the season as Leicester did last year. Things seem to be pointing to having a real good go this season, and I do think we have one of the stronest squads now. King is taking no prisoners. If Robins fails this season to get promoted I think he will be gone. Harsh but I just feel King has set his stall out and the bar is high.
Anyone else 'feel' this?

This pre season is very very different to anything we've ever done before (certainly that I can remember). It's either going to lead to a 'quick start' or players are knackered by October.

Change is in the air and Doug knows what he wants. Investment is clear to see on and off the pitch. The new performance director knows her stuff and brining an elite approach to all aspects of the club. We’re no longer on life support and doing things on a shoe string.

I think the club recognise due to the quality of teams relegated this season from the Premiership they this is a real good chance to get out.

Robins is now getting all the support and platform to take the club to the next level.

Will he succeed? Let’s find out…

Hope they’re not knocked by October we’ve got international breaks in Sept Oct and Nov with the exception of those going to the Caribbean and USA they should be fairly fresh till Christmas.

I defo agree it does feel different now. It’s starting to feel like king is gonna give this a real good go. I certainly feel there’s a bit more speculate to accumulate now. Every time we sign someone there’s always “well that must mean x is on his way out” but I don’t think that’s necessarily the case now.

His payday will come when we get to the prem and he sells us. Whilst not throwing ridiculous money at it we can’t achieve this by trying to break even. We do have to be sensible and try and limit losses. So I think more calculated risks are being taken on purchases that will provide a profit down the line. Plus more money going out on making us a professional outfit with a solid base of operations.

I still think we lack some quality to be challenging for the top two as it stands but with I would say we are 2/3 quality players away from having a shot at it which could easily happen before the start of the season. Certainly more positive now than for any season in a long time.

You are right things are changing and needed to after years of neglect. King knows the club has to grow on and off the pitch to be successful. The infrastructure is as important as the players in the squad. The preparation and recovery is as important as the 90 mins on the pitch.

I think King is the sort who will always expect the best we can give each year over a 5 year plan.
Year 0ne is evaluating what you have and what you haven't got.
Year two and three will be building what you need.
Year four and five will be expecting the returns.

But 5 years plans are rolling and always being revised. However I think he will feel top 8 or top 6, depending on circumstances a minimum. But you have to aim high and promotion is the ultimate goal.

But yes if you can get off to a good start why not do an Ipswich.

What we shouldn't do though is panic if we have a slow start again. Because we could still do a Nottingham Forest or Southampton.

Promotion is won from Easter onwards not in September or November.

But winning creates belief and grows confidence.

I agree and these changes in approach make me far more optimistic this season. I think we will see a shift in how we play. If we have fast wingers we will be more direct and hopefully create lots of chances for Simms etc.
I think we are a top midfielder away from being a top team in this league

Things feel very progressive in many departments. It all feels too professional for the utter shambles we endured and got used to under those amateur cockroaches from Mayfair. About this time of year we were usually selling our few assets on the pitch , signing sponsorship deals with small companies and readying ourselves for the launch of a new courtcase.

Feels different but we need an experienced first team coach/assistant in ASAP as players will be used to a certain type of play style. None of really know how influential viveash was to that and how ‘hands on’ robins is with that side of things.

I get the feeling that DK will not get turned over, he got decent deals for Vic and Gus, refused to be held to ransom by COH, offered what he thought was a good deal and stuck to his guns. The players he has spent money on have all been so far so good.
But in football it is always the hope that gets you

He doesnt need to, he just needs to be advised by people that do. He's running a business, and he's running it well in my opinion.

It's all very odd really, I don't think any of us realised what we had when DK took over, or what might be coming. I think we are getting some financial backing from somewhere.

That's what I've been thinking too about investment, the whole club from top to bottom is being invested in wisely and we are not throwing money around which could backfire

I mean if you’re just counting transfer fees if so then maybe I don’t have the figures to hand. But the wage budget has gone up significantly, the money spent on refurbishment, additional coaching and recruitment staff i doubt we are in any kind of profit off the hamer and vik deals now but happy to be proved wrong.

Watching the training in the unseen it seems a lot different than before, now it seems to be a lot of short sharp high intensity work the majority before seemed to be head tennis.

Doug seems to have surrounded himself with quality people

In spite of what the OP said, most of which I agree with, I don't see this season as make or break for MR. I genuinely think, barring a disasterous run, that this is a 5 year plan which will be judged at the end of that period.

If we were languishing in the bottom 3 after Christmas there’s no way King would wait for the 5 years to be up to judge the situation.

I’m not saying they need replacing we need 2/3 players adding without people leaving. Squad depth is something we’ve been missing as well so to go up we need those extra bodies in my opinion.

Sticking to the ex players theme Gavin Strachan and Robbie Keane both have Uefa pro licences. Carsley has as well but currently linked to main England job so can rule him out. Think closing date was today
