There was just no passion, no fight and clearly no quality in the team. It says it all when I come away thinking they were the worst team I've seen all season, of course not taking Vale into account. They were there for the taking but Brown played negative football, men behind the ball and when we get the ball hoof it up to a 6"5 bloke who can't even head the ball. An all round embarrassing performance, we deserve to go down after last night. What it was I don't know but their was no passion and no fight. They deserved every singe boo and abuse they got last night. What a disgrace!

So what was wrong with Hooper maybe he didnt agree with throwing the game with it being the chairmans team .
Seems funny our two most horrific displays have come against them .
Does illegal betting go on in our league .
So the players who represented us knew it was a must win game yet played like it didnt matter .
Seems strange to me .
I bet we thrash Mk Dons on sat and it will confirm what happened last night was pre arranged .
I had a bad feeling about last night as if it wasnt thrown then the players who wore the shirts have to ask why r they in professional football .
The way the fans backed them the last two home games i find it rather disgusting that the confidence and swagger they should have displayed last night was AWOL.
If Cecelia was played a lone target man then im dubious to say the least he in no good in a 1 i believe we played better when Turner was put up there in a 2 last 10 mins why wasnt Brown brave enough start with a 2 ?
Was he told not to .
A embarassing defeat nonetheless

We lack flair, we lack control, we lack quality, but I at the very least I expect organisation, passion and hard work to at least try and get us out of this mess. After sitting through 90 minutes of sheer rubbish I really fear that this won't end here and next season the trap door will be wide open. Coventry were dreadful and were easily the worst opposition I've seen for many a year. This should have been a gimme.

Haven't got time to read through this thread but just to say that tonight's performance had relegation written all over it. We couldn't string three passes together, constantly gave the ball away and struggled to win it back. We wouldn't have beaten the Dog and Duck Reserves tonight.

It's not impossible that as hundreds of Vale fans go home in a state of utter despair, there is a white-haired buffoon sipping in the Coventry directors bar and wishing them luck for Wembley - have another vat or two - in fact why not become their chairman ?

Well Smurthwaite will be celebrating tonight as his beloved Coventry gain a win, bet he was sorting out his tickets for Wembley as well.

Sorry, but the 'they were the worst team they have seen all season" is pure rubbish.

Port Vale played very poorly, but we played quite well and should have won by about 3 or 4 goals.

There was some good movement from us last night and one or two slick passing moves.

We know we are the worst team in this division, but we didn't play like that last night.

Don't buy for a second that based on last night's City performance that we are the worst side Port Vale have faced.

I'd imagine their judgement of us is clouded by the fact they've been beaten twice by the team who has been giving out three points like it's Christmas Day all season.

Wholly agree! We've been awful this season (Oxford away, Brizzle away) but last night was a vast improvement. Having seen some of the shit on offer from other teams this season (including smash and grab promotion chasers sunny scunny) we were most definitely NOT THE worst team to of played Vale this season.
I've seen MUCH worse than what we played lastnight.
It's just bitterness. We are after all, rock bottom, and we did beat them. They didn't look like scoring bar the goal that burge gifted them.

Reading those comments from Port Vale, the one about throwing the game to us. I seriously did feel that our 2-0 win at their place was a freebie win. The way we just ran thru their midfield and defence and scored two goals. After last night, Port Vale must be a Jeckle and Hyde team. Or just not very good.
Two fortunate goals for tho last night. Reid won't score a better goal than that again and the back heal, well, the football God was smiling on us.
Let's see if they can win two in a row, then there might be hope at Wembley. My view.

No. Still not going. Been watching the build up to 87 FA Cup from Stoke to semi with Leeds. Real football from a real team. Saving the Final re-run for Apr2nd. A real final.

I can't quite see how a game where the only question is how many will England score qualifies as real. Or why anyone gives a flying fuck, bearing in mind the arse England make of things having cruised to major finals.
