Without a doubt, and this report makes clear investment is needed. You can't make huge cuts to councils, who are responsible for social care, without it impacting the services provided. And the areas that have been impacted the most by budget cuts are those with the highest levels of deprivation where there is more demand for social care.
This is probably my biggest frustration in politics. You're in charge, its your responsibility. Its not like they took over last week and have a huge mess to clear up.

Here’s the thing about BLM as well. When they talk about defunding the police they talk about defunding them to use the money to invest in social care, mental health care, youth services etc. The idea being that this takes pressure from the police and other emergency services back onto the correct departments. There’s clear evidence that the emergency services especially the police and ambulance service have had to take up a lot of slack from austerity. There’s more than one way to be a party of law and order, treating the route cause of the problem is a good starting point.
BLM want to defund the police to do just that. The Tories defunded the police to bail their mates out.

Yeah but you can’t defund the police and spend the money elsewhere, that’s why it’s a dumb policy. (Also “BLM” don’t want anything it’s not an organisation, some BLM supporters want).
Preventative measures take decades to come to fruition. You can’t just leave poor communities to the dogs while you wait. So basically you’re arguing for basic left wing policy of improved education and care funding in the hope of reducing pressure on the police.
Which is why “tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime” wins elections and “defund the police” doesn’t. Despite basically saying the same things.

Defund the police and divert the money to social programs makes perfect sense in the US where they have a huge budget, cut about armed to the teeth like a Mexican militia and don't actually have very good clear up rates.
It makes no sense in the UK, especially given the tories have been defunding them to the tune of 20k officers and 20k civilian support staff since 2010.
