The mindset has to be right. Id rather go into that game needing a win than a draw. Does it sound crazy. Id be more confident needing a win than needing not to lose.

We will royaly fuck it up if we just need not to lose.

As the Derby and Sunderland matches proved, anything can happen.

I’d quite like to confirm our play off place with a win at Luton, simultaneously relegating them.
That would be a nice way to round up the last few years

I'd rather go into that game needing nothing myself.

If we lose the next 2 then we are up against it - we need at least 3 points

Bristol City have Burnley away. Burnley have only lost 2 league games all season. We're 2 points ahead of them. Good chance a draw in each would keep us in the top 6. Maybe even just a single point.

We need 70 points. Doesn't matter the order or who against

Rather not rely on anyone else - it’s in our own hands so we need to take advantage

5 points from our hardest 3 games left would put us in a very good position. We already have 3

It isn't relying on anyone else. It's being realistic. Away at Sheffield United won't be easy but I think we will get some kind of result. Bristol go to Burnley. Then Burnley come to ours. Burnley have lost 2 out of 38. Think we have a good chance of a point. But it won't be easy.

Technically speaking any team that can reach 70 points or greater stands a chance of achieving 6th place, that is Preston upwards. However teams in that position would need to win ever game until the end of the season, highly unlikely to say the least.

Hopefully will be us and Bristol City . Was born in Bristol and have a lot of family down there . Similar to us they have a huge untapped fan base

Two draws out of Sheff Utd and Burnley, would be fantastic. Be really, really happy with that.

The question of ‘who would you want in the playoffs if we get there’ will be answered after these games in any case.

Our aim is to get as many points as we can. If we finish in 5th....or even 4th...we have an easier route to Wembley. But even coming 6th doesn't tell us who we would get.

I'm starting to fancy our chances against Sheffield United. It would be excellent if we could get a result against them. Even a draw would do. What is just as important as a point would be a good performance. Half as good as our last game would suffice. Get Burnley above them. Let them worry about us.

A big bonus for us is having players like Wright, Rudoni and EMC that are fresh. Most players are starting to feel the pace. The everfresh Grimes gelling the team and pulling the strings.

We have the momentum. It's ours to lose.

The odds (SkyBet) for a top 6 finish

Coventry 4/9
West Brom 4/5
Bristol City 11/8
Middlesbrough 5/2
Sheff Weds 9/1
Blackburn 18/1
Watford 22/1
Norwich 28/1

It's 2 from 4 barring an absolute miracle run from one of the chasing pack, none of whom are remotely suggesting they have the quality to go on one.

Dunno if you can just call it a run at this point. Since Lampard came in we've amassed as many points give or take as the top teams. He's been here a while now which leads one to suggest we are just in fact, a top team.

We've averaged 2 points per game over 21 games under Lampard, which is borderline title winning form achieved over nearly half a season. That's not a 'miracle run'.

None of the chasing pack look like getting close to doing that even over 8 games. Sheffield Weds need 19 points from their last 8 to reach 70 (which still might not be enough). 6 wins and a draw from their last 8? Really?...

4

42 points from 21 under Lampard

In the 23 league matches leading up to his appointment we picked up 18.

Mind blowing a) how dogshit we were for 7/8 months under Robins and b) how productive we've been since.

If you Google historical league tables there's lots of sites do them.
Just put the dates you're after in, you may need to play around with the dates a bit to get the exa t number of games played you're after

Winning 10 games out of 12 isn’t miracle form?

If the season started when lampard joined , we would still be 4th but just 3 points off Leeds in 1st .. we'd also be 11 points clear of 7th

Weirdly our miracle run is almost being matched by Sheffield United , I'd agree with tom at this point i think this is just who we are and often teams grind results here and there

We have spent a good 40-50 mill in 2 years so its no surprise we are as good as this , the recruitment really has been good hasn't it for the most part

I was just pointing out winning 10 in 12 is up there with the best runs of form in the club’s history.

It is yes and we've had some luck in that run but all teams do that and good teams seem to create more luck ..

I so think some are probably getting a bit too excited on closing the playoff door to some teams.

We are doing very, very well, but that gap isn't that big. There are still 8 games to go. One or two losses, and one or two wins for some of those teams and they'll be on us.

I have faith we can do it, and hopefully with a couple of games to spare. I do expect some twists on the way though!

It is, and its brilliant of course... but given the spend relative to the division we're in, its no surprise the run has come now rather than at pretty much any other point since i've been watching. It's easy to get that spend wrong but it looks like we've largely got it right, which is great and I'm also not taking anything away from the manager who i think is a breath of fresh air... but we are a top team in this league, that's just who we are atm.
