Nobody can possibly be as naive as Gilbert makes himself look by refusing to apply pressure where Wasps are concerned.

So after Reid broke the story Wasps feed him a scrap of information - which may as well be Fishers ‘normal business practice’ soundbite he used to get ripped apart for, while refusing to answer questions, and he just recites it unquestioned.

Wasps buying the Ricoh was, we were told, going to mean job creation and the Ricoh going from strength to strength. So once again it was either BS then or BS now.

So frustrating that the Telegraph and CWR do such a bad job where Wasps are concerned.

In a strange way it sounds worse that the restructure isn't related to the CCFC situation

Seems to have gone quiet in the last few days. Is this a shift in approach from the alliance of arseholes and are going to batten down the hatches and pretend like nothing has happened? Are they relying on seeing the storm out in silence? Hope the road safety guy's prediction of worse to come for them is correct.

I think it's just a copy and paste of the statement isn't it?

But that’s the problem. The Telegraph and CWR both just put out statements from Wasps without questioning the content.

It’s presented as news with him saying ‘A spokesman tells me the restructure is nothing to do with the CCFC situation’.

If he’s just putting out their pr he should make that clear and say he’s tried to follow up and they are refusing to answer.

Should also be firing in questions to the council as they promised the Ricoh sale would lead to job creation.

And to add, that didn't come from their 'PR' company either

Even if they’ve been planning it for a while it doesn’t mean it’s not related to us going, that’s not something that has happened out of the blue.

ACL is already short staffed in some areas having not replaced people who have left, laying more people off hardly sounds like a business going from ‘strength to strength’.

Thing is they are probably following the CCFC model we did the same thing years ago to make the club self sufficient.

Turns out there's no blame on Wasps. Salop888 has spoken on twitter and 'The negative impact on the local economy is Seppala’s fault'

Could someone ask - did all the wages and salaries get paid on time last month?

Also I thought Muggins said CCFC only had a 3 year arrangement at the Ricoh so what was the plan for it after that?

He seemed to forget about ccfc for a few years and then became obsessed with telling everybody the council and wasps aren't to blame for a thing.

Whilst not withdrawing my comments that i feel the redundancies were driven by, or at least the catalyst for change due to, CCFC's departure the following can be gleaned from the ACL accounts.

Year.........Staff*..........Wage cost..........Turnover
2012............23.................1.43m................7.7m
2013............18...................960k.............14.49m
2014............17...................702k.............12.16m
2015............18...................758k...............6.99m
2016............47.................1.87m...............8.99m
2017............55.................1.90m................9.9m
2018............57.................1.90m................9.2m
* staff numbers above for ACL and below for wasps holdings group are the average monthly number disclosed in the financials

Not all those that work there are included in the figures for ACL or the group. The majority that had employment were employed through Compass on zero hours contracts, and Compass also had their operational staff on site. From what i hear Delaware operate slightly differently in that they prefer proper contracts where possible although not always, but do also have operational staff on site as well.

The wasps holdings group financials provide the following info that is relating to their business at the Ricoh

Year............Other Staff*........ Players..........Total cost.........Turnover
2015.......................150................57.................12.6m..............21.4m
2016.......................159................57.................17.4m..............30.9m
2017.......................153................53.................12.3m..............32.9m
2018.......................181................52.................13.4m..............32.8m
* other staff will include the coaching staff i think

Make of it what you will, but from looking at it it seems to me there were too many staff allocated to ACL. Things can be moved around to suit and there could be specific reasons but ACL in years to 31 May 2013 & 2014 (pre wasps) on a third of the staff at half the cost achieved nearly 50 to 60% more Turnover than the year to 30 June 2018. Wage costs seem to have got out of step with what was being achieved at ACL. That's poor management really.

I still think that saying it had nothing to do with CCFC leaving is disingenuous and no one is really going to believe it, especially when it seems obvious to me that a review of staff costs at ACL has been needed for some time, why didn't they do it before?
