and we haven't won in 5 league games, but we still sit in 11th place. Before the season started would we have been happy to be just outside playoffs at this time? Plenty of points on offer over the holiday period so plenty of chances to move up.

This inconsistency reminds me of last season: we'd have a good run of 4,5 matches and then lose a few. I'd look at the league table and think we'd be in the bottom half but it never quite happened. We're certainly creating chances at home but our finishing is woeful. All in all though to be where we are is beyond what I expected.

Before the season I was happy to finish 17 or above and anything above 12 was a bonus.
We are not consistently good enough to finish in the play-offs although any improvement in our consistency might give us a chance.
I am not disappointed by our current position although I would be delighted with a higher one.

I know that this isn't relevant but does anyone think that Tim and Joy share a private moment at Christmas, after the boxing day match. Bit of mistletoe etc ? Sorry but I just thought of it.

The 5 game winning run raised expectations for too many beyond reality of where the squad is for this season and I don’t see our fortunes changing too much for the rest of 2018 in terms of consistency tho a win won’t be far away.

We’re not far away generally and a match for the majority of the league. Some key recruits changes the dynamics completely tho with the off pitch uncertainty we might need to wait till the summer.

I'm not fussed about investment in Jan (unless Thomas has returned or we have injury issues). There are rarely decent players available, they cost over the odds. Wait until the summer for me

I would have took where we are now at the start of the season and I'm not unhappy with where we are but having watched us against the teams that are challenging at the top it's frustrating how close we are to being a team that can be up there challenging with them. We just need to sort out our goal scoring but as Alan dougdales moustache said, a lot of similarities between this season and last so hopefully it turns out as well for us.

Robins had previously said that he has money from the McNulty sale to spend in January. We'll see.

It’s fine lines occasionally, take our early chances the games play out different.
The similarities to last year are uncanny, tho I’m not so sure we’re gonna see the same upturn as this league a bit more unforgiving than L2

If the board (lol) genuinely think the club may die in the summer, then I imagine there are some financial implications that may affect whether we spend in Jan or not?

Same - as you say, we will likely have to sign at least 1 winger if Thomas goes and Jones is badly injured. Probably a loanee though, and like last year we'll end up with someone like Maguire-Drew. Wonder how ready MR thinks Allassani is, would be interesting to see him involved over the Xmas period.

Perhaps he can have another million to spend on 3 more non scoring forward

We should try to get Nathan Holland on loan from West Ham
Quick and brave wide man from U23's who was on verge on first team but got injured and Grady Diangana stepped up instead
I suspect the club will be looking to loan him out to get first team football

Is Callum Wilson likely to move in January? That may make a difference to investment or not. I think like most, be happy to consolidate this year (if that is what we do) then spend better in the summer. I do think we have the making of a decent team just need 2/3 good additions to help us along.

All of this - except that assumes we start from where we are. I'm hoping not, but suspect Jordan Willis may disappear in the Summer, so we will lose a pacy defender who will need replacing (the rest of the current central defenders lack pace). There are one or two others who may leave, particularly if our 'home/existence' remains uncertain (especially if it drags on) and/or we do not tie up players sooner, rather than later (which I suspect we won't).

There are clubs making overtures. We'll see whether anything comes to it.

January could be positive but could also be see the fan base turn toxic once again come midnight January 31st

Interpretations from any January business could be misread very easily and isn’t going to be easy for MR to recruit under the current off pitch circumstances.

Any sales may indicate how uncertain the future really is, but buying isn’t gonna be easy in a already difficult period to do deals.

Loans won’t satisfy many I’m sure.

People are a bit random when it comes to transfer windows. I think Sky and the media are to blame.

Sometimes it's as if the only business that counts is if it is done on the very last day. Sometimes people forget the business and money spent in the summer just before.

To put it into perspective how much has been thrown at strikers, to get people out the door it's going to need payoffs or clubs agreeing to take them on for free. (like Stokes).

That’s true sky have created a hype around the January window as it’s centred around the Premier Leagues big 6 and clubs looking to survive or make Europe.

Championship is the same with the lure of getting over the line into the elite category or a key signing for survival.

L1 and L2 in reality is about covering injuries by any released players or loans or if you’ve the luck of the luxury to add to the group with a target identified already.

You may well be right but, according to some on here, Jordan Willis left in both of the last two summer windows so I won't hold my breath

The difference this time is that his contract ends in the summer.
