The idea that Plymouth, Luton and Hull will turn into prime Real Madrid is a bit silly.

3 teams need to get relegated and it’s usually the teams that aren’t good enough. All 3 of those teams have pretty bad home records and whilst Luton are getting positive results, they’ve been draws and have only beaten teams around them.

Derby bit us in the backside and that’s because they have a good team for a promoted side and have hired a solid manager in Eustace. They are the form team in and around that area of the pitch.

When we beat Oxford, they were in the relegation battle (still are somewhat) and we won, their home record was a lot stronger than the teams we play - in fact it was better than Sheff U’s at the time, albeit over a shorter period (last 8 home games).

Plymouth didn't need to turn into Real Madrid today.

Just did enough to take their chances and they competed and fought and showed the determination to battle their way to victory.

Left it late for their subs and a giant awkward player was a turning point for me.

6 points clear now after beating Sheff Weds.

I expected a comment after the result!

Fair play to Plymouth, but they won’t win many games having 30% possession, 3 shots on target and an xG of 0.7.

Sheff U have been outperforming the data metrics for a long while now and it seems to have caught up them, particularly in away games. Just didn’t come soon enough for us!

I can see it being lower than 70 points now.
WBA, Millwall, and Boro can all only reach 70 points if they remain unbeaten

For me, it's the next two games I worry about the most.

I can see it being a draw against Hull, which actually wouldn't seem too bad at all.

We don't have a great record against West Brom though do we.

We would have to avoid defeat, but then if we were only to pick up 2 points from out of the 2 games, we could get overtaken and knocked out the top 6 places.

It's such a fine line.

I do think that the best we will get at Hull is a draw though.

Hope I'm wrong, as a win would be massive.

If we beat Hull it would take a monumental collapse in form to not make the play offs

3 wins and a defeat would be 69 points. 70 points to beat them.

That is a big ask from their perspective. It’s 2.25 points per game

Does feel like we have the toughest run in maybe alongside Brizzle will feel a lot more comfortable if we could win the next 2 which would pretty much put WBA out of the chase or as near as damn it.

Exactly. But only 1 of the 3 needs to do it. Been saying for ages 70 points for 6th and 73 for 5th. We could well need less but need to hit the playoffs in good form.

The only teams that can actually finish on 73 point is ourselves and Bristol. Boro and WBA have to beat us to get to 72 points.

Bristol are also not great away so unless they win both home games v Sunderland and PNE, they struggle to reach 70 points. They have Leeds and Luton away so Bristol will struggle to get over 71 points imo.

Which is why I am still saying 70 points for 6th.

All games at this time of the season are hard to predict. Who thought Sheffield United would lose 3 on the bounce after beating us. This is where the table changes so quickly. Those in the race for promotion should be looking at 3 points at home 1 away. If Bristol manage it they get 72 points but they have Leeds away

Have spent the last couple of months looking at other results as much as our own but now we're in the driving seat. A win tomorrow would more or less be booking a playoff place. A draw would be OK as it would give us a 3 points gap. Then we would go into the next game knowing just a point would keep our position in the table. Keep it up as the chasing pack drop points.

I curse your complacency.

The WBA game is going to be very nervy.

Based on some rudimentary statistical analysis I have proposed the following final league positions and points totals
1. Burnley 97pts
2. Leeds Utd 94pts
3. Sheff Utd 88pts
4. Sunderland 81pts
5. Coventry 71pts
6. Bristol City 70pts
7. Millwall 67pts
8. Middlesbrough 66pts
9. WBA 63pts

Therefore 68 points should be enough

I'm not sure Middlesbrough will only get 6 points from 4 matches. And West Brom, only 3 points from 4.

Be interesting to see how it plays out.

Last season WBA (who finished 5th) got only 3 pts from their final 4 games.

Norwich (who finished 6th) got only 5 pts from their final 4 games

Strange things happen at the end of the season (and I'm well aware that applies to us as well)

Agreed, if we win tomorrow it does us a huge favour because it means we can afford to lose to WBA even if it’s not ideal.

With how Sheff U are stuttering atm, I wouldn’t be scared of playing them at home in the first leg.

Styles make matches. Ours plays right into Sheff U’s hands, whereas Sunderland’s plays into ours.

Our best bet is to finish 5th and hope cheat code Hamer is off form in the final, or that Sheff U don’t even make it.

Not necessarily. This is a massive oversimplification ofc, but the story of our season is scoring the first goal in matches (and stoppage time winners).

Conceding first against Sheff U away early on was going to make the game insurmountable so I wouldn’t read too much into to it.

I’d prefer Sunderland too but if we finish the season strongly, neither of those teams would fancy playing us away in the first leg.

I’m pretty confident we’ll finish above Bristol City.
