Jeering at players in the stadium is a no no.

Coming on here and airing your views is fine. That is the whole point of this place

People were generally supportive of Simms. Lot's of Ellis Simms chants after his misses.
He improved as the game went on.
Admittedly I was in block 2 but heard no booing.

With respect, I'm not sure it is that simple?

Criticism on here is OK, but giving out actual abuse just because you can do it anonymously isn't IMO. I'm sure players are advised to ignore social media, but that's easier said than done because they are human beings, and I bet it impacts some of them whether they'd admit it or not. Cowardly to use language online that you wouldn't be prepared to use to someone's face.

(not implying that you have said anything wrong ptr)

For me it's about giving constructive and balanced criticism. So you mention weaknesses but strengths also. Allowing time for players to settle at a club and adopt to a new level of football.

I have little time for the "he's shit get rid" brigade. Anymore than "we need to make 5 subs at half time". There are also fans who seem to develop an agenda with players. So let's ignore the 5 good things he has done in the first half, but jump on his first mistake.

In fairness we do have posters who are prepared to say, I got it wrong about a player. Or at least I am normally critical of him but he had a good game.

You are right about how posters feel safe on social media and just run their mouth. Like you pointed out, say it as if they were stood in front of you.

You make the assumption the type of people who go to football are level headed sober people who think things through. Always a minority of idiots, always has been always will be. You won't stop it

Its a crazy way to treat any player but Simms scored 19 goals for us the season before last, not like he's a no-hoper. He absolutely does not seem the type to have an attitude problem or anything like that. Just seems like people have singled him out as a target and now no matter what they're on his back.

Personally I want every single player who puts on our shirt to feel they have our backing and encouragement to give the best performance they possibly can. We hear Lampard talk about fine margins to the point he won't let players take a selfie with the kids waiting pre-game, getting on the backs of our own players with sarcastic cheers isn't going to help.

The players on the pitch have been recruited, coached and selected. If they aren't good enough, that's not their fault - the blame lies elsewhere. The only time performance is not acceptable is if a player doesn't put in the effort and I can't see that being the case with any of the current squad/deck

My take is, unless a player really isn't trying, you don't slag them off while they are on the pitch.

A groan is fine if someone misses a chance of course. A misplaced pass etc. That's natural. But specific, targeted booing or sarcastically clapping a player because they actually headed the ball or whatnot, just shouldn't be acceptable. Doesn't help the player and doesn't help the team.

The audible jeering for simms last night was cringeworthy and pathetic. Fans that do this need to be shamed at games and called out - it’s absolute nobhead behaviour

This is a key point. We're not run on a shoestring budget now. If players are being coached by an elite setup then they should be up to standard. A player like Simms is not a kid we're taking a punt on and he's shown he can score goals. If the manager and coaching staff can't get the best out of him then for me that raises as many questions about them as its does the player himself.

Lol they didn’t sign him.

So they should make Brad Collins the next Peter Shilton as they are elite coaches?

What a dumb comment

It’s not Brad Collins’ fault that he isn’t good enough for the Championship.

The fault lies with his recruitment

Should never happen in the ground - I think all agree. On here it’s different. It’s not slagging players off - it’s just assessing and commenting on how they played. Others will have different opinions which is the whole idea.

Aah that’s nothing - I remember in the Russell Slade games you could hear individual shouts of

“fucking hell Beavon - you’re shit”

“fuck off Burge”

They had it really bad…. And could hear each individual taunt

Don't call the fans because they never will be fans. Just idiots that shouldn't be in the ground.

Simms for the most part had a positive reception during the match last night from what I heard .. a few fans cheered when he won a header or 2 .. thats as disgusting as it got ... slight overreaction as really the team were well backed in the ground .

We can discuss players how we choose on here

On here then fine. We all come to vent and talk bollocks and players should stay away if they’ve got any sense

In the ground you can fuck right off. The game Saturday was ruined for me my two chavvy bitches thinking they were the wittiest people ever for slagging off Simms all game.

If you do this: you’re a c**t. You’re in th wrong end fuck off to the away end. And you’re a c**t. Ditto booing.

If you haven’t managed your emotion regulation powers beyond the abilities of a toddler please stay at home and seek help.

I personally think you go OTT at times on here with your agendas etc.

However, this is a great post, fair enough & I respect you for it.

Why are you so pedantic?

Jeering/booing - it's quite obvious after last night that I'm on about Simms.

Well yeah I was there and I didn’t hear any booing. Thought you might have heard something but forgot you don’t really go to games.

The ironic cheers for Simms were pathetic as was the rendition of the King song.

Spot on. The hand wringing sanctimony is pathetic.

People should have been around in the 80’s when players got dogs abuse and they were paid a lot less for it as well.

Yeah, but this isn't the 80s, is it? Stop living in the past.

The player seemingly is a confidence player yet after he scored, was still getting sarcastic jeers when he won headers. How do you think that made him feel?

Whether you like it or not, or think it's important or not, it's not on to do that. Thankfully, the majority commenting on this thread seem to agree with that it wasn't great. We want Simms to be playing well and scoring goals for fun. Jeering him for winning headers isn't going to help.

Things have moved on from the 80s.

us as fans should be demanding the most from our players some are paid our yearly wages in a fortnite .

A couple of sarcastic cheers won't change how simms performs.. his performances have been largely poor irrespective of fan backing

He’s ultimately a player who needs more confidence than the average pro to deliver a performance.

Maybe, maybe not. I empathise with him, at the same time though professional football is an ultra competitive business and he’s at a disadvantage if he’s a huge confidence player.

The sarcastic cheers were partly because he was literally pretending to challenge for headers whilst looking at the player and being nowhere near winning the ball most times
Its classic look busy even if you are doing nothing nonsense

He scored and he missed 2 glorious chances too , thats not because he was cheered for winning a header

I thought he gave us a solid performance compared to recent months though in all fairness , the bar was set low though

No disagreement there, I was just describing why we see what we see from him and it’s why we’ll struggle to recoup our investment in him.

Said for a long time he has the physical attributes to be a menace in this league, but we’ve seen it probably just a handful of times. Reminds me of Amadou Bakayoko, and we know where he ended up
