"Another season in League One awaits dear old Coventry City. The temptation to add to the handsome collection of season previews is a strong one, but I’ve resisted the lure of statistics this year and come up with another way of bringing in the new campaign.

Introducing the notion of supporter self-improvement."

The 'forward' one is particularly pertinent. It's frustrating to hear people whining about us holding on to the ball as if you can only create a chance by getting it into the box within five seconds of gaining possession.

Its unfortunately ingrained in the culture of the English game......mainly as result of Charles Reep & his theories of the "long ball game".

His studies & analysis during the 1950s & 1960s showed that about 80% of goals in Enlgand were scored with 3 touches or less......

Unfortunately, the FA then took this to heart & made it central to the coaching manual until the early 1990's......

A certain Mr. G. Taylor was a disciple of the theory.......anyone remember his England side kicking straight to touch from KO to ensure play restarted in the final 3rd......unbelievable looking back.

one that gets me is fans focus too much on the ball. The important work is done off it. Sometimes that backward pass is due to the lack of options and movement rather than the ball players lack of vision. If you are going to gamble on a forward ball it has too at least make it difficult for the opposition.

"but I’ve resisted the lure of statistics this year and come up with another way of bringing in the new campaign."

Translates as: "I haven't got a clue about the rest of the sides in the division, so here is some jargon about how to be a fan."

Not at all. Can people not both praise and critique stuff these days without being deemed to have an ulterior motive?

Jimmyhillsfanclub's dinner is your basic selection of lunch time favourites. Some creativity comes in the form of the ham and mustard combination, with the choice of wholegrain bread as opposed to white a refreshingly original option. He's gone safe with ready salted crisps, perhaps having run out of the more flamboyant flavours - salt & vinegar and cheese & onion - in his multi-pack. The fruit brings a certain vibrancy to the package, nicely accompanied by an 'XL cuppa'. Does this include sugar and milk? I'll leave that to your imagination.
