Sky Blues companies behind with filing accounts

The filing of company accounts with Companies House is a legal requirement. It assists transparency as it is possible to access the accounts for a small fee. This is particularly important when companies are mired in controversy.

Admittedly, there are often delays in filings. However, if these delays become too serious, there is ultimately the sanction of prosecution. According to the latest issue of Private Eye, Companies House informed Coventry MP Bob Ainsworth on 30 August that it had passed to its 'prosecution team' the failing to file accounts by three companies associated with Coventry City, the club that plays all its games away.

The three companies are Sky Blue Sports & Leisure, its subsidiary Otium Entertainment Group, and the Otium-controlled Coventry City Football Club (Holdings). Sky Blue and CCFCH holdings should have filed their 2012 accounts on 28 February.

Otium, which has acquired control of the Sky Blues from administrators, is even more in default. Its 2012 accounts were due on 21 January. By the end of September, receipt of the three overdue accounts had not been recorded. Private Eye asks whether summons have been issued to directors of the three companies, Tim Fisher and Mark Labovitch.

It appears they have Inland Revenue, Football League, The FA, Paul Appleton and this years season ticket holders as putty in there hands.

Those like ACL and CCC who dare to fight back are threatened, restricted of rightful funds and taken to court in an protracted fight until they give in or fold.

He doesn't need to. Only an idiot would claim they have court officials and the Inland Revenue in their pockets. The FL may have acted out of fear of litigation, but as for the others, behave yourself.

They need to do their jobs and not be lenient or turn a blind eye because they fear a fight.

I refer to theferret's logical post..

A) There is no proof. B) The FL acted with guidance to their 'rules'. C) The FA haven't even been involved. D) Paul Appleton is an officer of the court, I am sure he can't stray out of line. E) Inland Revenue well this was the reason I posted it's absolutely insane to even claim it.

Yes of course this is SISU I suppose some believe that anything is possible

You say things might be different, but I can't see a realistic arguement in which the whole administration process was going to bring about a change of ownership of the club.

Of course he is, he's a lawyer. That doesn't mean he has acted illegally or has been in any way negligent. Why would his risk his reputation and career to serves the interests of one client? It is nonsense.

I think the point isn't only whether they influence these bodies; as to whether they show a disregard for their authority. In that regard, they clearly do. Rules and deadlines are in place from each of the bodies mentioned, and SISU, in it's various guises, will refuse to comply if it suits them not to do so. History - not opinion - will show that to be true. Disagree?

Is it not strange though; that he chose to sell a business when he couldn't clarify it's assets? As the decision seemed to disadvantage some bidders. Didn't it?

Yes true. SISU as history suggests aren't showing regards for rules and regulations, however stating that they have an influence on certain bodies beyond their control is a huge guess to make, one which is incorrect.

If the accusation is that they show disregard for the authority of the organisations and institutions mentioned, then I would agree, and I'm not here to defend the way in which SISU conduct business. I was answering the suggestion that they somehow exert influence over these bodies, because they don't. I really don't know where people think JS gets all her power from.

The late filing of accounts is not unusual. The Inland Revenue will have a backlog, and there will no doubt be many other companies where the accounts are more overdue than those of Otium et al. The IR will deal with this is due course, and I am sure they have communicated their intentions to SISU quite clearly already.

I don't think that it would be that anything Paul Appleton did was illegal ........ but things may have gone differently with somebody else running the admin process. Again not illegally either. It is easy to influence things when you know the law.

Anyway, let's get back to topic shall we instead of constant "my cock is bigger than your cock" bickering

I agree with your first point.

As for the second, whilst the situation is certainly not unique, it is unusual for accounts to be so overdue. You would not expect this position from any company of reasonable repute. By the way, whilst HMRC would become involved if tax returns (which would include accounts) were not filed on time, the policing of the filing of statutory accounts is done by Companies House.

To be fair, I was winging it a bit on my second point. I've never been particularly clued up on these matters. It's probably why my business has just gone under (that and the fact I spend most of my day on SBT talking shizzle).

Plus of course it is well known that large multi national companies, have been able to do 'deals' with the Inland Revenue.'Deals' that the ordinary Joe Bloggs would never ever have a chance of striking with HRMC. Corruption at FIFA, the huge scandals at the BBC, MP's expense scandal,Catholic Church scandals worldwide, there are countless examples of people in high places or positions of power, who summarily abuse that power.
The idea that all court officials,legal people government officials etc are all squeaky clean is simply not borne out by 'events' over the years.

Sorry to hear that, what sort of business were you in ?! I had to close my own business after nearly 14 years in 2011 and for what it's worth I know MMM had a tough time closing a business a few years ago too so we all have a bit more in common than we think !!!

Why have they not filed the accounts ??????
I am trying to come up with possible reasons and the only one i can think of it is to do with their end game.
They may have two sets of accounts ready to file but they are awaiting JR review result before deciding which ones to submit !!!

True. My condolences for anyone who's found themselves in a similar position. I imported machinery from Japan for over a decade. A delegation flew in and told me they were setting up their own business. You're buggered - there's nothing you can do. Yes, there are legal avenues open to you, but if you can't afford to pursue them, they're useless. I was facing a multi-billion dollar business, and therefore didn't even get out of the starting blocks. At the time I had an AMG S55, RS6 and a Range Rover. Had to sell them and the family home to pay redundancies and the bank.

My advice - for what it's worth? Keep plugging away and believe in yourself. Dust yourself down, get your head high and get straight back in the saddle. Until you get back to that better place, you genuinely have my sympathy
