Sit in protest (2 Viewers)

Ok if we're having a protest, no half measures we need proper planning and not a few ideas of what might happen on the eve of the game but get the word out on the forums, the radio and in the media. Ensure everyone knows. Whatever form it takes, don't lose your rag or it will dilute the point and render the whole thing pointless. My suggestion is a sit-in.

Does anyone know what the rules are surrounding you being forcibly evicted from your seat after a game?

Bring some food and have a sit-in peaceful protest after the Derby game - refuse to move for literally hours, do they have any legal precedent to evict? It will be newsworthy if we still have a few hardened stragglers by the Sunday.

Congrats on today's effort btw boys. I'm in Block 18 and loved your work/. Even had the chance to join in on plenty of occasions without being a lone voice. Greater numbers would of course have helped, but it was loud and good. Shirts banners whatever is required but keep getting them out a few at a time and see the scummards swarm to take control.

"A sit-down protest or a blockade – even a peaceful one – can be stopped if it blocks road traffic or public walkways. Any racist chants or threats of violence – even in an otherwise peaceful protest – are not acceptable, and those involved could be arrested and charged"

That is a quote from the direct gov website. Therefore, they cannot kick us out. They also have no ownership over the property and it is only The Alan Higgs trust or the Coventry City Council that have the right to remove us.

Protest and police powers
Police have a duty to provide protection and assistance for peaceful protests, but they must balance that with an obligation to preserve the peace, uphold the law and prevent crime. Individual chief police officers decide how to handle each protest in their area.

Violent activity cannot be regarded as a legitimate form of protest, and the police have the legal right to arrest and charge those who commit acts of violence during protests.
Police have many legal powers that can be used to prevent violence or unrest associated with protest. They can, for example, impose limitations on the route of the march, or the location and duration of a rally.

They will only do that in order to prevent:
  • riots or other serious public disorder
  • damage to property
  • serious disruption to the life of the community
Police might also conduct ‘stop and search’ operations around a protest, but they must do so for a specific reason. Because of this, if they stop and search you, they must always specify on what legal grounds they are doing it.

Anti-social behaviour rules and dispersal orders can also be used to break up violent or unlawful protests.

A sit-down protest or a blockade – even a peaceful one – can be stopped if it blocks road traffic or public walkways. Any racist chants or threats of violence – even in an otherwise peaceful protest – are not acceptable, and those involved could be arrested and charged.

That was my idea on here last week but seems to have been overlooked in favour of shirts. I thought it made the point of the death of our cliub. I suggested Sky Blue embroidered "love City, hate SISU" on the armband.

I like the idea of a sit in protest. Just sit in after the final whistle and chant anti-sisu songs and wave our flags. I know a steward and I remember him saying before they can't leave untill the ground is empty so would certainly cause a lot of distress and is bound to get noticed if enough people participate.

Cheers, Chris good work. In other words the heavy handed stewards can't remove us and the police must leave us alone too.

Actually, come to think about it. It all depends on who pays the stewards wages.

What I man is, I am led to believe that the council pay the Stewards wages, and therefore they may have the right to kick us out, but I am not 100% sure.

Yeah, I read it and liked the idea, I don't think you need them embroidered though. Just some black electrical tape would do it. I honestly think we should do it.

My dad was a Steward last season and he was paid by the football club.

Get t-shirts with each letter on and stand in a row: S.I.S.U.O.U.T.

I'd like to see them try to undress you. Not literally of course.

Is that the time...

10th sept. next home game, enough time to plan. The thing with the pdf banner that nick suggested would work! I could get one done tonight/tomorrow. Also large banners and protests before and after the game would work!

Good effort today from you boys in the corner.

Im also in favour of the black armband, but they must be decent ones. Even if we have to pay £5-10 for one i think it is something that most people will join in with.

I was also a steward (back in the HR days) and I was paid by CCFC. It's true that we had to wait until the ground was empty before we could leave. We had to do security checks etc after everyone had left the ground. That was in the days of Bob Rankin. Don't know if he's still the main man over the stewards though.

If you really want SISU out then simply boycott the games. Let it be known that you are not turning up. It only takes a few thousands to take this line and they will sell within weeks. It's hitting them where it hurts - in the wallet. As making money out of the club is their only objective they will soon leave.

I am all for making some form of action - but tread carefully with the black armband thing - this is traditionally to show respect for those that have lost their lives and could be construed by some as city fans abusing that tradition and in doing so disrespectful. Only a thought.
