...Also lots of talk about public opinion swinging against ACL....cant see it. its 50/50 amongst City fans, though hopefully more can see through SISU than that.

Say there's 315,000 residents in Cov, and say 50,000 have been to a game at some point in the last 5 years, thats still 265,000 residents who couldn't give a shit about the club or football so would actually be backing the Council to get money out of a company that "owes it over a million in rent"...thats a lot of pot holes filled in!

Its easy to slate ACL about them not being about the best interests of CCFC.....thats not whats in their job description.. their job is to run the RICOH..which as its owned by the Council (very loosely speaking) should be run in the best interest in all 315,000 residents, not 10,000 fans who go regularly or 50,000 who'd go to Wembley for a cup final.

Read the statement from the Swansea council leader posted in another thread. The difference between the political leaders in that city and ours is striking. The economic benefits to the city and all its residents from having a top flight football team eclipse the modest returns from rental incomes for the stadium operating company.

...not only that, but you talk about pot holes being filled in, but we all know that even when the club was paying the full rent, ACL still didn't pay any dividends. There is no 'profit' for the taxpayer to be made from Ricoh, not in the short term anyway.

And as for "265,000 not giving a shit", what nonsense that is. My 3 young kids are part of that number. They don't go to games, but one day they will care, or at least I hope so. I have elderly grandparents too ill to go to games, but they would care because match day used to be the highlight of their week. My wife doesn't go to games, but she knows how much it means to me so also cares and takes an interest. Don't assume that because people don't go they don't give a shit.

Why are rules different in other cities where stadiums are council owned?

Because a charity owns half of ACL?

Didn't a regeneration charity own half the Brittania Stadium?

I had to Google that.

'The Stadium was originally owned jointly by Stoke City F.C., Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration Ltd. However, in December 2007 Stoke City F.C. announced that they had agreed a deal to buy the shares in the stadium of Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Stoke-on-Trent Regeneration for £6 million, giving them full ownership.'

It also says that the stadium cost £15m to build and took 10 months to construct.

So I guess the difference is not that a charity is involved, but that 'our' charity has a different oppinion as to what is 'the clubs best interest'.
