I always thought Vik was better without Godden. Maybe there is a correlation?

As I remember Godden was the sole striker in our L1 Title winning season, and scored goals in that role when we came up from the Championship. I would argue he is better in that role too. However, yes Vik was better as the lone frontman.

Once O'Hare and Alllen are back in the mix (by early October surely), I am sure Robins will move to a 5 man midfield. Got a feeling Simms will be the man, with Wright as the impact sub, as the season goes on

Would you really spend that much on an intended impact sub?

Wright looks like he has massive potential to me. Big, quick and he takes the ball down well and can run with it too. His issue so far has been finishing but I think a lot of that is confidence which will come once he gets one or two.

Godden would still do that job well in League 1 but no chance at this level. You don't get the time and space.

He scored 6 in 23 in our first season up as a lone striker, 2 of which were penalties.

Yes, but he wasn't the issue. We were leaking tons of goals, and it took the change to a more direct style to get us to safety (but Godden was injured by then).. 6 in 23, works out about 12/13 goals in the season and for a team fighting relegation that's not bad.

Simms will come good.
Wright won’t.

Heard it here first.

The last 3 seasons we have been working with a basement budget and got every bit of value out of it. At the moment it looks like we have done what Stoke tend to do but without a billionaire underwriter to fund another go at it next summer.

I just can’t wrap my head around the fact we spent £7.7m on Wright.

Looking on Wikipedia, he doesn't seem to come with any pedigree whatsoever so the fee seems very strange.

It was a massive fee for someone I'd never heard of......really wish our recruitment team had never heard of him.

Makes me think someone sneakily added an extra zero onto the contract before it was signed.

I'd rather have signed David McGoldrick on a 1 year contract. Yes he's 35 but he scores everywhere he goes and he could help bring one or two others on. Can't believe he's at Notts County. Bet he didn't cost much.

He could be top scorer in April but we could be in the bottom 6.

Robins on CWR:

Didn't start right, wanted to move the ball quickly
Weren't set right, weren't brave enough and too deep
5 of our players were pinned back by 3 of theirs
Could be doing with finishing chances
Feel disappointed by so many poor decisions made
Really disappointing for 2nd goal but Sakamoto isn't a defensive player
Not looking for excuses, will get better
Got to take defeats on the chin
Could have got back into it without suicidal defending
3 poor goals conceded
Looked a bit livelier at 3-2 after the changes
Got to dust ourselves down and go again
Need to make braver passes on the ball rather than passing it around the back going sideways
O'Hare tantalisingly close to returning
We will get better than that
Sheaf will be out minimum 6 weeks
Really missing brave creative players in the middle
Players all seem very quiet in the changing room and in their shells
Lots of things we can do better

In our first season in this division Matty James essentially led by example and held a team meeting after a battering at QPR to sort things out. It surprises me if even McF is staying quiet but maybe he's too aware of his own poor recent form.

Just get the poor man in at attacking midfield, put Eccles as the RWB cover and move Allen or a free agent into defensive midfield.

Why pick out that goal in particular? Almost seems like he wanted to have a reason to mention Saka and give a reason as to why he won't play him.

Also, if he's not a defensive player, then MR must have signed him as an AM. Yet when given the chance hasn't used him there despite poor performances from others who continue to be picked. So why sign him and where exactly did you intend to play him?

So he at least sees what we see, now he needs to fix it.

Ayari has to be a part of that.

That’s what I thought re saka, but what about their first goal terrible marking, we were lucky on a couple of occasions as the back three were terrible

That wasn't great, but he wasn't the only one involved in that goal.
