That would be ridiculous but given how the rest of the summer has gone it wouldn’t surprise me

I'd assume its nonsense like most the drivel on here but on the 1% chance your boy knows something you'd have to think that means 1 striker and 1 wide forward.

When the gaffer doesn't give you any minutes in games like the play off finals and Saturday when we were very poor up front then I think the writing is on the wall.

I think he would have been a lot more suited to the way we set up against both Sunderland and Hull as well, but it does seem Lampard has seen enough.

The tactic of having Thomas Asante as the centre forward and then pumping balls into the box all game isn't working so far. Hopefully Wright can step up

That's the nail on the head. It really does not matter what we think, it would seem that his non-selection is Lampard telling him & his agent to find another club.

Personally, a loan out is maybe the best we can do at this late-ish stage.

Could be looking at two options, maybe one as a contingency, and we'll only sign one.

Isn’t it obvious what the game is? We’re struggling to move on the likes of Simms, Bassette etc. and until we do I’d be amazed if King sanctions another forward coming in.

If they can teach Simms to trap a ball and not make the bounce off him go further than where it was passed from then we might be onto something

He’s made it this far with PL coaches and is impervious to improvement. I’m not sure we can fix it. I’d shave his head just to see what happens. Do it while he’s asleep (or about the 30th minute of a game).

Agree. Picking up snippets and gut feel I think that’s the issue they have with Simms. They’ve not seen him progress. If you combine that with his obviously very laid back demeanour it’s easy to conclude he doesn’t give a toss. That may well be wrong but it must be frustrating to work with.

But why would he make the squad / bench, if we had no intention of playing him and/or there was this alleged payment clause? It doesn’t make sense. The only reason I can think of is to show potential suitors that he is match fit, but even that seems illogical to me.

I think it’s more likely that Lampard was / is looking for a reaction from him - to get him to show his hunger - and he’s not showing the fight or desire required.

Bassette, by comparison, would appear to have been bombed out. Simms does seem to be a different case.

How can he do that, if not on pitch? Was given 20 mins in a friendly and scored a good header.

Don't think playing one up front, suits any of the strikers. Can't see how Simms can prove anyone wrong, he is not playing.

In training…

I think that’s what FL has been alluding to - in general - and everyone has assumed is Bassette and/or Raphael, but it seems to be a challenge to the entire squad. Only way to reinforce it is to restrict minutes on the pitch.

I mean if we could sell three perfect or if one could play on the right wing?

Haha this style of play thing is nonsense.

He should thrive off how we play given the number of crosses we put in the box, but he doesn’t.

He’s not good enough to hold the ball up and link play. He doesn’t make good runs off the ball, his movement is non-existent. And he’s not a good striker of the ball either.

I’ve seen this argument a number of times but I’d like to hear a system that would suit him? Because I don’t think there is one, he’s just not good enough.
The thing is, he can. The game against Wolves showed the Simms we need, yet havent seen since. The ability is there, but his application is frustrating. Often heard others say he needs confidence but I think it's somethig else and that it's his mind that's the issue (and we can't seem to change that). Conclusion same as yours though, he needs to move on if we can manage it.

Hardly the same.. Against Sunderland X2 it was crying out for Simms, same as Saturday.

Why does it need to be a 'falling out'?

If the player(s) are not considered good enough or arnt showing the levels needed, they don't play.

Because for Simms to play no part in the 2 Sunderland games and Saturdays game is ridiculous and there must be more to it.

If Frank sets standards in training and certain players are not meeting them, then they won't get picked.

It doesn't mean he's fallen out with them.

With all due respect that’s bollocks. Wright was so abject in both Sunderland games that even if Simms was worse than a cone in training he still would’ve been a better option.
There has to be another reason unless FL is that stubborn that he won’t bend his rules even when it’s to the detriment of the team which is not a good thing.

Remind me again, who was our top scorer last season?

Or the season before?

Keep digging before you drown in your own drivel.

Maybe the reason is because Frank, like many others, thinks he’s shit and others us absolutely nothing?

I would, in all seriousness, try and palm him off on Robbings at Stoke.

I know we all have different opinions, but we look better and create more chances when Simms is playing. Hope he gets another chance.

Well he did come on in a friendly and made light work of finding the net ?
So over to Frank on that.
He made a point recently of saying there's no issue I thought regarding Simms, but probably not wishing to start the rumour mill off

TBF Wright was not fully fit on Saturday, and could have been carrying the same injury against Sunderland?

Was Saturday's start to the season any better than Stoke away last season?
