Sky Blues boss admits he won't have an increased budget but says he will have space to sign players

Steven Pressley
Steven Pressley is confident that Coventry City owners Sisu will allow him to field a competitive side next season despite yesterday’s revelation that the club made a £7million loss in 2012-13.

But the Sky Blues boss believes that English football is heading for a financial catastrophe because of the unsustainable spending spree at the top level of the game.

Pressley, who had to slash his wage bill from £4.5m to £2m last summer, confirmed: “The budget will not be moving in a northerly direction, no, but I will have space to bring in players that I feel are suited to taking this club forward.

“We’ve got losses but they’re been covered by the owner. The club is in a good financial position in terms that there’s been no concern about players or staff being paid or bills being met. That’s never been a concern or a worry at this football club.”

Speaking about the bigger picture, Pressley added: “I look around and see clubs posting losses of £65m and £90m and I fear for the game.

“There needs to be better management of our finances in this country. Not enough people are looking further down the line at the potential implications of the large spending just now.

“People are spending way beyond their means and if in three years time certain individuals turn their backs on these clubs they’re in big, big trouble.

“A manager should take a little bit of pride in his football club, like Arsene Wenger has done.”

Got to admire his positivity.
Personally he has done such a good job this year on and off the field, that he will be snapped up by a Championship or top L1 club.

No he won't. I'm 100% certain he'll still be here in 2014/15.

Is the talk of Kris Boyd coming dying down? Think he'd be a great signing in this league, If we had a season with him and Wilson as our 1st choice strikers Id fancy our chances to outscore any team in this league.

Suring up the back 4 is a must also!

If Delfouneso signs permanently we are all going to have to put a bit off effort into learning to spell his name.

To be fair, don't think Baker will be up for it.

Can't believe people actually take time to do this. Unless it's a college project !!

I agree for the most part but I think we'll have these two in the middle:

CM: Morgan
CM: Stanley
