Sign of improvement? (1 Viewer)

I've been unable to attend the last few games unfortunately but after SP left we have faced 3 games under TM or tbf 2 games. Both at home and against reasonable opposition with last nights Bradford team having a terrific season.
Out of these two games under TM have we visibly improved?

With such short time to get these players under his way of thinking it's understandable not to expect quick glorifying wins right away. But has TM shown glimpse of improvement from what we have been seeing? In time the TM affect will improve us I'm sure but the fact remains 1 draw from two at home.

So what are peoples expectations and have we shown enough glimpses of improvement to suggest we will keep improving and what is it that's changed?

I think we are a little more forward orientated but unfortunately we have no quality throughout.
Just need to survive this season and then hopefully we can get rid of most these players in line with increased incomes this year.

Any bets these players will be with us next year and doing a good job in Division 2 ?

To be honest they look about the same as under Pressley but last night they did press forward more but with poor finishing.What worries me is reading that Mowbray has been ringing up managers who have League One experience asking for advice on what to do etc ? Can you imagine going to an interview for a job and saying I have no experience for the job on offer,but I'm willing to give it a go and see what happens !

I do think there's a definite improvement since Mowbray arrived. The football whilst still not pretty is certainly not as negative. Fleck seems to have been given a new lease of life and whilst still not the player we were promised when he arrived from Rangers, he's looking a lot better.

I did like towards the end how we had 3 stood on the halfway line waiting for the counter attack. If that was Pressley we would all be back in our box.

Fleck also made a couple of runs forward.

I've noticed a visible improvement in the beginning of games, we are still being overran during the second half of games

then hopefully we can get rid of most these players in line with increased incomes this year.

Any bets these players will be with us next year and doing a good job in Division 2

well we have 11 contracted players as from June, so SISU have already done that part.

First half, desire was there, with some half decent play, best I've seen for some time..... 0 confidence in front of goal though.

Second half, same old, same old, sat back and invited pressure, conceding possession too easily.

Mowbray has done a bit of tinkering at the edges, which is all he could possibly do by this point. The overriding problem is that the squad is so poor, and also unbalanced. He hasn't fallen on a successful formula yet and I feel we can only survive if he does happen to put a decent run together soon. There does seem to be a fitness problem too, probably because so many of them have not played 90 minutes many times this season.

Looking at upcoming fixtures, the bottom 4 play each other at the weekend and there are a few more such games coming soon, so someone has to pick up points below us. A continued run of poor results may be terminal. It is very worrying, Mowbray is obviously trying hard but he is no magician.

The players seem to be working harder. That's the only real improvement I can see. Football wise has been worse to watch than Pressley's. We are devoid of quality, I'm actually glad so many a free to leave at the end of the season.

Really? Worse than watching us have 0 shots v Preston at home or worse than watching us have 0 shots vs Notts County at home? Worse than watching Swindon (who actually are a decent team tbf) destroy us 3-0?

Last game I was at before last night was Swindon and I would say that there was a distinct improvement in application if not results. Which surely has to be start.

Not those specific games, but in general yes. Thought it was scrappy and devoid of any real quality. The ball spent a good 15 mins in the middle of the first half literally given away ever 1-2 passes. It was a poor football match

I dont class sidewards and backwards football as good football ..regardless of how long we retain the ball.
Chance creation alone shows improvement somewhat

Fair enough, for me Pressleys brand of football was the most dire I have witnessed over the last 10 years. At least we've looked relatively dangerous the last two games and I've seen a change of emphasis to try and score goals opposed to Pressleys game plan of creating as few chances as possible.

Keeping possession and going sideways and backwards isn't good football and certainly isn't helpful to scoring goals.

When was the last time you could say we missed 4 or 5 golden opportunities in a home match?

Agreed it isn't good football, scoring goals is good football. Possession football and attacking football are not the same thing, keeping the ball and slow passing sideways/backwards should be a tool you use when you are 2/3-0 up and want to take the intensity out of the match, kill the momentum out of the opposition and not allow them back into the match, it shouldn't be your opening move like we used to do under Pressley.

You have to be balanced, we're not exactly free scoring, we still bit particular tight at the back, we've given away leads in the last 2 games and have just 1 point.

Personally I found it poor. I'm surprised everyone's so upbeat.

We've scored 5 goals in the last 3 home games since he was sacked, over 1.5 goals a game!(not great but an improvement) And I've found all 3 games entertaining even if the quality lacked at time or the result wasn't quite right. When Pressley was here we had scored 16 goals in 15 home games and after games I felt like smashing my face against a brick wall.

Its still poor but I've seen an improvement from under Pressley, the problem is that the improvement has only lasted for 30-45 minutes of the match and the other 45-60 minutes has been pretty similar to the rubbish Pressley served us for 90 minutes every match.

When was the last time you could say we missed 4 or 5 golden opportunities at home?

So to sum up:

Yes we are improving.
Going forward more and creating chances.
Fleck has improved but the midfield is still a problem area that needs urgent attention.
Improvement and prepared to go forward seems to last only the first half and we lack fitness overall.
The other downside is the lack of decent players within the squad to be able to make changes with any great affect.
There is still a lack of confidence.

Is that about right?

So the next question is: What do you think TM will do to address these issues short term?

Stu you and me rarely see eye to eye but agree on this. The new manager syndrome for me hasn't worked and had the effect we would have hoped. I haven't seen much change for the best. If we had the same performances and results under Pressley this board would be in overdrive calling for pressleys head

That is possibly true, big difference is Pressley was here for almost 2 years and Mowbray 2 games. If in almost 2 years time there is little or no improvement then Mowbray will be getting as much if not more stick than Pressley would get/got.

I had thought that his sacking would have brought about an uplift in morale and a willingness to perform for the new manager. Obviously not, which shows how poor this group is that they can't motivate themselves even for a new manager. Still, he's barely been here a week, so your point on Pressley is a bit harsh.
