We have missed a goalscorer all season long.

Number one priority next season has to be a player capable of 20 goals.

Or 2 strikers to compliment each other would be nice, not lay it all on 1 player, then some goals from midfield and defence is that too much to ask for?

We've had goal scorers and sold them. Possibly someone that can score won't fit into our salary structure.

To me the key is to get genuine league two strikers that are 28/29/30/31 age bracket....players with no real resale value to other clubs. Like your chris dagnals, players who will likely get 10+ goals in league two with the right players around them.
Players that are not quite high end league one quality so your bigger league one clubs will not pay a fee for them.

I think yesterday is more down to the group pulling together and actually working for each other for 96 mins. Keeper played well, defence did just that so you've a fighting chance. That's something we've rarely had all season.
Without being there is sounds like we could of win it if we had that ruthless striker we so desperately need.
The team deserves the credit on this occasion and the players like Bigi coming in stepping up to show there worth, and Stevenson showing why he's a hot talent.

I am interested to see how we do on saturday in person. If we can find hybrid of passing abd physicality maybe we can be on to something

Let's hope so, as the old saying goes your only as good as your last game.... while we kept a welcome clean sheet, players performed at a good level consistently... add all them factors together and it's a good base to build upon if not only for a faint hope of survival more importantly for the young players who will be here next year.
But we've been here before after several other good performances...

Such a good performance in which we were fortunate not to lose

Our failure is down to two things.

It's nothing to do with style of football, long ball, pass ball, keep ball

This is the first season since relegation we've not had a scorer of twenty goals a season. Also we have no pace in the team.

We actually played a lot of long ball tactics last season but to the effect of getting the ball behind the defence and using pace

Face it since Armstrong stopped scoring and Murphy lost form we have had an atrocious league record stretching well over 40 games.

We DO have pace. Unfortunately though it is just Jodi Jones and he has shown he is not ready to step up and play week in week out.

I reckon players like G Thomas and Beavon could do a job for us in League 2.

Agree. Can beat the same player over and over again til the cows come home but his final ball is tragic!

Oh yeah, forgot about Reid.

What a pointless signing he proved to be.

Style of football has a big impact on success.

The 'long ball' tactics from last year were with a purpose; we got it forward quickly with a plan to use the pace and movement of Armstrong and/or Murphy/Kent.

This season it is literally hit and hope to strikers who are not naturally target men.

Just seen the highlights, definite Shrewsbury handball deflecting a shot which was on target and a push in the back - so shouldn't we have had a penalty?

At the start of the season it was wing backs - a crab like midfield of sideways movement which was pleasing the thorn purists of the game and 3 forwards wide apart and ineffective.

Last season post November the tactics were also hopelessly ineffective.

I see no real pace from Reid at all. He doesn't ever push defenders back.

The start of this season Mowbrays tactics were hopeless, he tried to play a narrow midfield/strikers using wingers, and the wrong players a wing back. The system was too complex for L1 and the players at his disposal. However, your point was about last season.

Post November we lost form, but that also coincided with our pace players losing form or leaving (Kent) and being replaced with a different style of player (Cole). Mowbray did not adapt tactics effectively enough to counter act the changes. Again though, it proves tactics do matter.

Antonio Conte in the Euros had the pundits waxing lyrical about his tactics and he seems to be doing a fair job at Chelsea so far... Maybe Mr Slade should pop in for a chat with him about tactics
