Can we stop this embarrassing nonsense of shouting that the ball is outside the markings at a corner?

it never is. Makes me cringe every time.

It sometimes is. Without VAR, if they score from one that will be it.

Every time singers corner have shouted it's been inside the line

If you sit/stand in that corner, the ball will look out due to it's curvature when it is actually just inside.

Also means our defence have to reset so not ideal

Refs have generally seen something

There was one where the tv showed the ball to be quite a way out, the ref did fuck all.

No. Genuinely hilarious that refs keep falling for it. One of my favourite things.

Although it's funny, it wastes about a minute per corner - we then get an added 3 minutes at the end of the half, including injuries ( we are effectively losing several minutes a game through this - fine, when we're winning, and trying to hold onto the lead, but......) Even the 'quieter' end started up with it against Millwall.

I’d care a lot more about time wasting if we had a side that actually tried to win games in the final minutes of the match TBH. It’s usually ten seconds once or twice a game it really makes no difference. And frankly games are so dull these days I’ll take any entertainment I can get.

It;s not ten seconds at a time mate. Not going to take a stop watch to prove it, but the amount of 'wasted' non playing time is galling. Let's put it another way, would you find it amusing if the crowd kept throwing something/another ball, on the pitch, delaying the game, when we were struggling to beat the opposition; yet the ref doesn't materially add time on for it?
I get the initial amusement, but it's clearly self defeating in terms of helping the team (particularly if the opposition are time wasting themselves).

As I say I’d care more about this stuff with our team a couple of seasons ago. This side I have no feeling they’re busting a gut to win so I won’t begrudge the crowd a little entertainment. Far more time is wasted on the pitch, our throw ins alone are much more of a serious problem.

Did you not see the Millwall taker move the ball back slightly after the second accusation before the ref came over to inspect?
I was at the rear of Block 11 and everybody could see it clearly was not touching the outer edge of the line marking.
The one just before was legal tho.

I do wish we’d do it for players taking the piss with throw in locations though. Millwall has one guy that ran half the length of the half each time.

The ball doesn’t have to touch the line to be in

Even if it’s not. Why do we care here and not for every fuckin free kick and throw in that’s taken in the wrong place.

If people are doing it seriously they’re stupid.

Crazy how a whole squad of players are apparently tanking their own careers because…?

You do make some funny posts sometimes.

You do have some funny interpretations of my posts sometimes. Half this squad won’t be here next year, their careers are fine.

It’s stupid to do it in games like this one. We’re just helping the opposition waste time.

Especially as we waste enough time at our own corners and throw in's!!!

I can't see half the squad leaving, and the some of the ones that might have certainly taken a hit to their careers! (Collins, Dasilva, Kitching, BTA, Simms, even Sheaf compared to a season or two ago).

To be clear, the ball doesn’t need to be touching the line. When you stand directly over the ball and look, down part of the curvature of the ball has to be over the line. Which means because of the curvature of the ball you can see grass between the ball and the line. But the balls position will still meet the letter of the law.

I can. Wilson, Bidwell, Allen, Tavares OOC Sheaf Wright MvE sold, Dasilva Collins Kitching got rid of. That’s ten of twenty right there.

Fair, but plenty of their playing reputations will have fallen off a cliff this season.

I think you know what I meant.
The outer surface of the ball on the second occasion did not bisect the outer of the corner marking - Hence the Millwall player moving it slightly back before ref came fully over to inspect.
I get that for the vast majority of the time it is purely for time wasting or kidology to unsettled the opposition and not to gain an advantage but at what point do we just let go of the rules?

Do it at every corner and the ref will just start ignoring it.

They get pre match briefings on things like that. Refs prepare for the teams, just like teams prepare for the opposition.
