Hes on a 12 month rolling contract so lets judge him after hes got atleast a pre season under his belt. I think if it hadnt worked out by the end of tye first 12 months the board may take him aside n say Andy, its not working, hiw di u feel about goin back to being scout?? Hes done a good job at spottin talent so i think the club wud be silly to get rid altogether even if it doesnt work.

Im quietly confident it will work out tho!

Good point Tom, i hope that AT has been assured that, should his management skills not be up to standard next season,
his services will still be required as an excellent scout. I hope he continues to do both jobs well.

I doubt being a scout pays that well, so driving miles in a wet November to some meaningless non-league game will appeal any more to him as a full-time job. Just like Hughton, once he's had a taste of it I think he'll want more and will likely get another go elsewhere if he fails. Others will recognise that he can spot a player and to a lower league club that could be enough just to get a few cheap Hussey's to be promoted. I think he was right for the job but I would also think SISU would be scared of losing him too if they didn't give him a go because he could take that likely profit to another club.

It's a good point. He will need to do reasonably well before Christmas. If we are languishing near the bottom with only a handful of wins then he will have to go. This whole appointment is based on the football he has produced since AB left, the results he managed to secure and the new spirit and sense of unity he has brought to the club in a short time. For this he deserved an opportunity and as the fans number 1 choice the board had little option as season ticket sales were somewhat dependant on it. However the board's decision has been a 12 month contract not exactly total commitment is it? It merely suggest to Thorn he has the chance he so wished for so it will be in his own hands if he keeps the job very long but he has a club who still can't back him in the transfer market very well and that too was another reason he got the job. he accepts it warts and all. He will come considerably cheaper than those rumoured and those who would have wanted a whole new back room staff and transfer kitty.
Fear not if I was Thorn....Norwich have done it after coming up from league two. I don't see why Thorn can't bring that kind of success. he will need to start well. Keeping King at the club may well be the biggest factor.

If you don't hire good people with the fear that they'll fail, I don't really see the alternative.

Who actually employed Thorn in the first place? Coleman? Does it not seem odd that both Coleman & Boothroyd had their style of play, then you have the Scout whos idea on the game is completely different to the managers. I was slightly concerened that if he does fail then we may miss out of future players, but i'd rather have him in charge then yet another failed manager who won promotion 10 years ago and still living of that sucess.

I reckon Thorn was scouting players who pass and move, yet Coleman and Boothroyd played a style that didn't suit them which is why our players looked poor until recently.

If this is Andy Thorn's first step on the managerial ladder, then he will no doubt bust the proverbial gut in order to make a success of this unlikely opportunity.

The performances since his appointment,have been nothing short of
Jaw dropping, with the style of football the fans have been pleading for, the players have appeared to shake off the cobwebs of seasons of stagnant, boring, non productive football.

His appointment could be just the tonic the Club needs, and without the costly contract negotiations, that we would have been forced into to secure the services of a "named manager".

I think the decision to appoint him was the correct one, he knows the players, and in turn the players have responded to him in very positive fashion, so the decision to appoint him was something of a no brainer.

I think in the world of football management, commitment and foolishness can go hand in hand. When you look at the average tenure of a manager this seems refreshingly sensible to me.

i get light headed when i think of thorn doing what lambert has done at norwhich

one promotion is enough though,i would welcome back relegation dog fights in premiership,i used to take them for grnated!

saying that i feel if cov ever do get promoted we will be better than we used to be, better ground and facilities, if we own them could lead to profit making! we just need to get there

Norwich were still on a high from promotion, have a large fan base and money to spend.

A large fan base doesn't get you up. A well run club and quality players do. They might not have superstars but it was more than an overthrow of confidence from the previous season that carried them through and they have a good manager too.

If it was as easy as spending money then Leicester would have walked it wouldn't they Hackers?

A large fan base generally means you have more money to spend, obvious but true.

We've spent money but it was always going to be difficult with Sven not being given the chance to get the players he really wanted. I'm looking forward to the close season and a large influx of quality players.

Yeah but Paul Lambert was in charge of Colchester then and they nabbed him ... and then replaced him with a certain Mr Aidy Hoofroyd ... Hmmmm

Plus Lamberts formation is EXACTLY the same as ours. They work very hard as a team to earn the right to dominate with their attacking, passing football.

Back on topic-I'm amazed we're even thinking about this. "If we're near the bottom at Christmas, he'll have to go..." Crikey, too soon! If we are, it'll probably be due to a 10 point deduction for going into admin...

I expect the "Thorn out" brigade on CWR if we lose on Saturday, mind!
