Only 2 years younger with much less experience. I'd even take Shipley ahead of him.

we know what shipley can do at this level and it’s not much. would rather take a gamble on a younger player that probably won’t even need to play much anyways, this would be for 6th or 7th midfielder in line. seems like an easy decision to me.

So you want to waste budget on a gamble 7th choice midfielder. Glad your not the manager then.

his contract expires next summer and would command less wages than Shipley. what are you on about?

Yes I'm defending, but before anyone moans it's the usual suspects already twisting the knife in Floyd and saddle. One says bottles over 90% of challenges, not the strongest for sure, but that's ridiculous and the other unfit despite not seen him since last year and disastrous performances - remember how Allen was written off? He's younger and was his first season at this level, including the odd decent game and a few moments in others, chipping in with a few goals. He might not make it, but some wrote him off in L2 then in L1 before he stepped up.

I like the look of Eccles too, but 7 games is all he played incl some from the bench and was ok but no motm performances and is now injured too, it's a stretch to think him or Howley who hasn't yet performed at this level are miles ahead. Personally I'd have loaned him out to get some game time right now, but when the window closed Kelly and Eccles weren't an option so that left us very thin in there. If he could have got some game time in L1 then come back in Jan I'd have preferred it, but difficult to see a way in for him currently without the overhyped disparaging comments.

Rob you keep suggesting I am picking on Shipley, I do mention him but I don't make things up to start with the truth his tackling is almost non existent, he appears to look scared of tackling, his fitness looks to be a problem his passing is poor now the positives he has a great left foot on him and has an eye for the goal and to be fair to him a lot of our players passing is poor at times too. Now apart from calling him Shitley once, which I did apologise about on here, I don't think I have ever written an untruth about him, I do incredibly frustrated by his inept performances for the team I love and if any of our current or future players played as bad as he has on occasions I will also write my discontent about them too so no its not a vendetta against Shipley its frustration against a player who has ability but for some reason doesn't know how to use it on a regular basis and just as a ps I don't keep trying to cast aspersions about you defending him because thats your right like it or lump it

I think we’ve outgrown Shippers. I’d let him go or at least out on loan to get games and see how he does. Personally I’m not convinced he’s good enough consistently enough for this level.

I've apparently got a vendetta against him aswell.

I just call it as it is. In L2 he was class. L1 decent. Championship wank.

Simple as that, he will have a good career at top end L1, we've outgrown him, and we dont need him, budget can be added elsewhere

Yet you start a thread on him to discuss getting rid when he's not even in the squad at time when nobody can move for three months, call him unfit, his performances disastrous and that he bottles all his challenges when he hasn't played a league minute this season, so no idea how he is in training or fitness wise or anything whilst we're sitting 4th in the table, possibly going top on Friday night. It's a discussion that's been done to death on here, so if it's not a reason to take a cheap swipe at a player who cost us nothing, risen through the leagues and played his part in contributing towards that then it surely has to be questioned why you would.

To be fair mate, he was just asking the question, don’t think he meant for it to be an abuse thread.

If he was, then there would be no need for the last paragraph and if you want to see his opinion, read it the other 20 times he's said exactly the same thing. He doesn't like or rate him, that's fine and his choice he doesn't have to, but no need to keep repeating it.

If Shipley is going to leave, I think we should "retire" the number 26 shirt.

I said on another thread that he was excellent in league two, ok in league one, and poor in the championship. We should definitely try and offload him on a permanent transfer in January if possible.

I think his performances in league 1 were better than league 2 tbh.

Hes had some real memorable moments with us and will always remember him being the last one left on the pitch at Notts County with the fans singing “he’s one of our own”

Amazing that he’s come through our system, with us from league two to the championship and even scored 3 from midfield in his first season at that level.

He’s a weird one because he has moments of genuine quality on the ball but just not sure he’s combative enough and can’t really see him being a permanent fixture again but fair to say the local boy done good.

Decent League 2, ok League 1, poor Championship.

As someone mentioned above, we have outgrown him. Players like Hyam and Kelly have gone through the leagues but have improved and dont look out of place at this level.

The pace that we play at now rules him out straight away. He looked knackered after half an hour last season so I’d dread to see him in this team where we play at such a high intensity

The lad has done well for us and we have done well for him also.

Time for all to part ways and for Shipley to play some minutes at either top of league 2 or mid league 1 at best.

Which is why I said he’s not consistently good enough. He can put in a good shift. If we put him in, does he improve the team? For me, no.

Poor bloke can’t even make the squad. He’s useful and has been a good servant but he’s struggling for a game along with quite a few others

League 1 definitely his level and I'm sure they would be a number of clubs that would be happy to have him

Otherwise I'm sure he is working hard in training to get into the team but I cannot see it happening

For the sake of his own career I hope he moves on in January

He was good for us on our journey from league 2, but we've moved beyond his level now, which is not surprising given the massive jump in standards.
only Hyam and Kelly have survived from league 2 and still looked at home in the championship.

He's still young, but needs to move on to find regular football, and will be looking for another challenge in January along with
Jobello, Hilsner, and Pask (imho)

Whilst I agree he's not at this level and it's time to move on, it's a little disingenuous to say he's 7th in the pecking order.

He might be 7th in the pecking order for CM but that's not his best position and he's probably 4th in the pecking order for his best position, AM (O'Hare, Allen, Jones, Shipley).

You need a squad, but squad players who, when they come on, improve the team or at least makes a difference.

He had a difference and a huge contribution in both L2 & L1 but I didn’t seem anything from him last season although I appreciate he didn’t get much game time. But then again, why is that?
