In his early 30s, at the end of his contract after a second spell with the club having disappointed for the last season is hardly shocking out of the blue disrespect.

Is that the same McSheffrey that was sold by the Club after Brum came in with FIVE offers for him?

Amazing that he gets more flack that any other player because he actually comes from the City!

Regardless of what others think McSheff has been one of the finest players in a Sky Blue shirt. I saw him on his debut when he scored against Crystal Palace I think. And I've seen many great performances and goals from him since.

No, he's not the player he was, but that happens. Fans have got their way, they booed him and he was dropped. Leave it there, eh?

PAUL FLETCHER is bracing himself for a fans backlash when the Sky Blues take on Leicester City at the Ricoh Arena tomorrow night.

Coventry's managing director has come in for fierce criticism since confirming that Gary McSheffrey is joining Birmingham City in a pounds 4million deal.

And manager Micky Adams added to his woes today when he hinted that he had been against the sale - and stressed that some of the transfer fee would be swallowed up to service City's debts.

"Before a board of directors sells a player, the manager is part of the discussion process," said Adams, "but ultimately it is their decision whether they are happy with the price.

"But some of that money is going to the bank. I don't want people to think that I have got pounds 4million to spend."

Fletcher, however, vowed to "take the criticism on the chin.

"I won't be shying away from it," he said. "I'm quite happy to take the flak because I take all the smiles and all the praise when people think that things are going well, so it's only right that I stand up to be counted when people object to some of the things we do.

"I understand why some fans are very, very angry at the situation but in the course of any season players come in and players go out.

All we can ask is that people judge us on our league position at the end of the season."

Many fans have accused City of hypocrisy for selling one of their star players at a time when they are canvassing support for their Operation Premiership campaign.

But Fletcher insisted: "This was a very complex situation: it isn't normal for a club to come five times for the same player.

"What I can't do, unfortunately, is to go through every single line of the deal with every single fan. When I do have the opportunity to talk to fans, and tell them the exact situation, suddenly it clicks.

"Three fans rung me to make that point and at the end of our conversation every one of them said 'now we know the background, we think you made the right decision."

Fletcher was criticised for claiming yesterday morning that no deal had been reached when it subsequently emerged that McSheffrey had undergone his medical the previous evening.

But he countered: "There has to be a process, which can break down at a number of stages, and we've followed that process. It doesn't become a deal until two groups of people sign a paper, and that certainly didn't happen on Tuesday night.

"People on both sides can change their minds at the last minute. There comes a moment in time when a deal's a deal, and in this particular case that didn't happen until we announced it."

Fletcher has also raised some fans' suspicions by refusing to confirm how much of McSheffrey's fee will be available to Micky Adams for team-building, but he said that was also standard business process.

"We made some transfer inquiries when we knew there was a chance of this deal coming off but before anything had been announced," he said. "We wanted to see what value clubs had put on various players, because the moment that people think you've got pounds 4m to spend, everybody's price goes up 25 per cent."

July 2006:

"I have not once asked to leave this club and I won't. If the club want to accept a bid then it is up to them and then it becomes a different story, but there is no way that I am either unsettled or want to leave, so we will just put an end to the speculation," he says.

I don't care where he comes from.....He's simply been shit all season.....in a league he should be ripping apart.

Something is clearly not right in his world......is that my problem....no. Don't bring your shit to work.

He should have been dropped & given extra fitness training straight after Xmas in my humble opinion.

Does not deseve any new contract offer.

Bye Gary.
