Shearer to Cardiff (1 Viewer)

So if Alan Shearer is going for the Cardiff job, does that make it more or less likely that he was interviewed for the Coventry vacancy? I'd imagine that they are a more attractive proposition than we are given the way that they are allowed to go bust every season without facing a penalty. Or does it hint at an impending financial meltdown after they missed out on promotion? Surely they can do better than Shearer if they are aiming for another play-off tilt?

I remember the rumour he'd been spotted up The Ricoh towards the end of last season, and he was certainly short odds at the bookies at one stage. I have a horrible feeling that the only things that prevented us from hiring him were his wage demands and AT's stunning performance.

Phew, lucky escape!

Cardiff may have just made a really bad decision. Then again, as you say we had a lucky escape so couldnt care less what they do!

He couldnt do it at Newcastle, and no matter how good a player you are, it doesnt make you a good coach / manager, and I doubt he will be any different! Probably turn out how Macca did for us. Great player, not so great manager!

Give the guy a chance!!! I think the finances might work against him as their bubble has to burst at some point!

Personally I think Cardiff are stuffed this season. They only seem to have about 14 players left before they hit their youth set-up. Bellamy looks unlikely to return. Burke gone to Birmingham, Chopra gone to Ipswich. Matthews went to Celtic, Bothroyd has become a free agent. Sure they still have a cracking defence, especially with Anthony Gerrard going back from Hull but their front 6 look.....average. I wouldn't be expecting them to return to the top 6 of the Championship this time around. Maybe mid table.

I dunno who's come off worse. Cardiff have basically lost their team so it's gonna be tough to manage them for him. But then again he hardly covered himself in glory when he took over Newcastle so you've gotta think for Cardiff there's better people out there with proven records. All these named lined up for the B'ham job, couple could easily have gone to Cardiff I think
