Unfortuantely he wasn't, that would have only levelled the shoot out...

Or a Ben Sheaf penalty away from greatness.

I don't think he's ever fully recovered from that miss at Wembley

Why do people constantly presume that if Dabo had scored his penalty that we’d have gone on to win the shootout?

Thought this one would have completed this morning to allow us to concentrate on other deals, seemed already sorted unless they've just not announced yet. Be a meltdown on here if we get to 7pm and it's not over the line

Probably trying to time it alongside an incoming to soften the blow

I don't think Vik is fully fit, nor are the team playing to his strengths at this point. There was a painful opportunity in the first half where Vik was holding his run and Martinelli completely ignored it. Exactly the sort of chance he converts.

I don't watch much Premiership football and I'm very much uninterested in Arsenal but I want to see Vik test himself at the top level - it was a painful watch and I can see now why so many Arsenal fans are frustrated with Arteta.

And ran the Ball out for a GK ultimately!

I dont, it is more a figure of speech. I.E If Dabo hadn't of missed Sheaf could have gone down as our promotion winning captain.

Shows how far we've come when I'm actually happy with this deal. If we need a holding midfielder either alongside, or instead of Grimes, Eccles is more than capable. I liked Sheaf, even in that first season, and he worked well with Hamer. However, his injury record, and loss of form since that Man U semi final has been alarming. I presume we'll sign a replacement, unless Frank's happy with Eccles, Allen and Andrews to cover the CM positions.

Thanks for the memories Sheaf. A brilliant servant.

Isn't that all three of our Wembley penalty missing players gone?

I wouldn't take Hyam over Kitching & Thomas, and Sheaf isn't in our first 11. Let them spend away

They won't need to worry about PSR. I'm sure I read their revenue is comparable to PL clubs.

He won't have to worry about getting injured tackling, Parky ball will mostly be sailing over his head, so maybe a cricked neck.

Fair play, he was a quality player for us, it had just ran its course.

Very best of luck to him.

Good luck to him, he was great for a while and then we have outgrown him.

Hope he stays fit as seems a genuinely nice guy but 6.5m is far too good a deal to say no to for someone who is not in our best XI anymore

The only person who it’s not a good move for is Sheaf, unless it’s just the money.

Gone from competing for promotion to relegation battle. Poor ambition for a 27 year old.

A good deal all round, and in the best interests of the club moving forward. We have significantly better players now and had outgrown him really. I guess that even though it is hard for some to take, the management knew it, and deep down so did he. Best of luck at Wrexham, Ben.

I am now feeling more confident than ever that we can get promoted, so even though the odds weren't great, I had to go for it.

Announce promotion.

Great on his day, however, we went on our run last season when he got injured. I wish him well, but I think we have better midfielders.

Sheaf leaves with my thanks and appreciation for his part in moving the club forward to a place I thought unimaginable 10 years ago, and he deserves to be held in high esteem by our support because of that.

It was inevitable, the Club thought last summer they were making a killing on him, higher profile with big matches,i l don't blame the lad at all but I'm very suspicious of his availability over the last 18, month's,as it is we've covered and gained a bit on his whole time with us!

I don't think he downed tools. I think it was a combo of badly times injuries vs Lampards ethos and the appearance of Grimes. Despite what ESB says, Sheaf, when fit, was a pivotal cog in the team and we lauded him as a premier league player on his best days.

Sheaf was just too injury prone and his shooting was absolutely abysmal but he was class for a time good luck to him

One of the surprises of the day is how did Sheaf pass a medical?

A good player when fit and on it, but he didn't get a "sick note" tag for being always available. Wish him the best, he's been pretty influencial in our rise over the years, just a shame he's gone to a rival.
