A good deal all round, and in the best interests of the club moving forward. We have significantly better players now and had outgrown him really. I guess that even though it is hard for some to take, the management knew it, and deep down so did he. Best of luck at Wrexham, Ben.

I am now feeling more confident than ever that we can get promoted, so even though the odds weren't great, I had to go for it.

Announce promotion.

I know you didn't like him but that's just weird. A bet after 7pm if we've signed other players I'd understand. I appreciate you wanted him out, but how can we be stronger after a sale? Must be trolling now.

You said you are fine with him going, yet you've spent the last 24 hours since this news broke getting upset, leaving an abundance of poo emojis, and having a pop at everyone who thinks its good business.

If it is this troubling for you, perhaps take a break from the forum for a bit mate. If we can't have a laugh on here, then what's the point.

I said fine with him going if we got a replacement. To my knowledge that hasn't happened. Allen and Eccles are not close good enough and Andrews not ready
The drop off at Millwall last week was noticeable. I've had a pop at nobody who thinks its good business only the sneering ones.

classy farewell message on his social media.

wish him health and class will show. Very good player, ravaged by injury last couple of years. Right time to move for him.

Great video on insta. Proper legend. Gave us some of our best days.

I wouldn't say he'll be "massively missed", not by me anyway, but he certainly had his moments. He was too injury prone and prone to giving the ball away, particularly on the edge of our own box or the oppositions. Wish him the best of luck, but to be honest I don't think he would have displaced any of our current three in midfield.

Great video though and makes me kind of sad. Hope he stays injury free.

Yep, he was a great player for us and a great person but sadly maybe because of injuries or maybe the rapid growth of our team he just wasn't anything more than the back up CDM. He wasn't able to do that good a job as the 8 next to Grimes as he slowed the game down and was very sideways. It's telling that Eccles looked better as the 8 but he joined us just out of league 1 and helped us massively get where we are today.

As I have I hope he stays fit and has a great run in whatever team he plays in.

Also nice that the fixture list means he can join in at our promotion party 2nd last game ;)

I wish him all the best and hope he can stay free of injuries in the future. He's been great for us but he's had a really terrible run, one injury after the other, which is awful for a talented footballer like him.

He seemed to play low 30s number of games each season. I don't think last year was significantly any different and that's not a bad return. The idea that he's "injury prone" is completely ingrained now but then apparently so was Godden who knocked up 40 odd games at Charlton last season. I think the issue was probably more along the lines of we played him when fatigued because we had to and we rushed him back again because he was needed. He certainly took some bumps and bruises and probably pain for us along the way. He'll no doubt be ever present at blooming Wrexham, where he'll have cover.

That's a very good point.

I suspect we've pushed him to come back from injury far too quickly on occasion, and like the honest pro that I believe he is, I think he's always tried to accommodate the request - possibly to his detriment.

At least he's gone on good terms, and to a place where I think he'll be valued and get some proper game time.

He wasn't always brilliant for us, but he's put in a lot of decent shifts over the years. Good luck to the fella.
