Have to say he talks a good game ......

Coventry City manager Stephen Pressley says he has no regrets over coming down from Scotland to take on the Sky Blues job.

The 39-year-old left the relatively safety of managing Falkirk for City in March but since then he has seen the club slip into administration and come under threat of moving away from Coventry.

Pressley told the Daily Record: “I still wouldn’t change a thing about my decision.

“It’s been tough but I knew what I was getting into and even if sometimes you don’t appreciate how deep-rooted the problem is until you’re down here, I still wouldn’t have run in the other direction if I’d known then what I know now.

“Because if we can get through this period there’s a great football club here.”

He added: “Everyone talks about Coventry being a big club but people need to open their eyes.

“I’ve looked at the last 15 years before this season – 11 in the Championship, four in the Premiership – and they’ve only finished in the top half of whatever division they’ve been in three times.

“Eighth, 11th and 12th are their best finishes and the average is below 16th. So there’s a little bit of blindness over the actual size of the club.

“They’re big in that potentially they have a large fanbase and for decades they were a permanent fixture in the top division. But in recent history and in terms of achievement and turnover we’re not a big club.

“I’ve looked at other clubs like Southampton and Norwich who spiralled downwards the way we did and then when they turned it around, and got the support behind the team, anything is possible.

“Our players in the UK don’t train hard enough, so we’re trying to introduce a more hard-working and disciplined regime but still make it a good environment.

“We don’t want Coventry to be their job – we want it to be their life. We need that type of commitment to turn the club around."

Who talks about Coventry being a big club? Love how he acts like Southampton getting a billionaire owner had nothing to do with their success.

Kind of relieved he said "even if sometimes you don’t appreciate how deep-rooted the problem is until you’re down here". At least it suggests he wasn't a total mentalist for taking the job!
