Solid signing. It's always imperative to have a versatile midfielder in the squad. Seems that CAM has been identified as his strongest position, however previous managers have ben quoted to have said that he can pretty much play anywhere in midfield and still excel. Makes me question what formation we will predominately use next season though. One can assume Vincenti will start alongside Kelly, with Doyle playing every other game considering his age.

Now that the CMs have been covered we need to look to wingers to sure up our midfield. At the moment we only have Jodi Jones. If Thomas signs, our right side will be a serious threat, but I'm personally not holding my breath. Therefore, assuming Thomas in fact rejects a contract extension and Reid is considered surplus to requirements then Robins will consequently need to bring in two solid LM's and an experienced RM as relying on Vincenti to fill the role as both a winger and a CAM/CM would be an unneeded risk.

Earlier in the window Robins said that 12 are to be bought in, however I think this figure will obviously fluctuate based on those who exit the club between now and 1st Sept. Harries, Willis, Stevenson, Reid, Turnbull, Beavon, Haynes and Thomas are all not guaranteed to stay. This concerns me because if worst comes to worst Robins still needs to bring in the remaining 5 players he promised earlier in the window as well as up to 8 replacements.

We've already completed some shrewd business in the transfer window and I'm personally pleased with our acquisitions so far. But similarly, it's no secret that there's still a great deal of work to be done.

When I've looked at where he's mostly played a few minutes ago it seems Rochdale used him as a right winger largely in his time there, so if you go on that basis in a 4231 you'd likely play him in the wide right position where George Thomas played towards the end of the season.

What he does give us tho is options to play him in that role or the no 10 position tho I'd play McNulty there and continue the search for a target man striker. If not then he could be used in the 10 as he's a eye for a few goals. Also gives us the option to go a traditional 442 and use him as a winger.
Time will tell, and who stays or comes in.

If Robins does decide that his best position is on the right then I wonder if that suggests Thomas is off? Regardless, I think Robins has bought Vincenti as a tactical player. One that has the ability to shape the midfield no matter what formation is puts out. Because of this it's safe to say wherever Vincenti plays this season, he'll be an integral member of the squad.

Couldn't agree more, it does cast doubt about Thomas but this is a great signing with or without Thomas in mind.
He's not here to be a squad player that's for sure and will find a place in the 11 I just hope it's a settled position for him to settle in.

We'll know more in the coming weeks about the Thomas situation. Hopefully as pre-season begins a decision will have been made.

As I said previously the amount of players such as Thomas who we don't know are staying/leaving really does concern me. It's crucial to have a relatively full squad for the duration of pre-season so I certainly wouldn't say no to one or two more signings being made in the coming weeks. Along with solid guarantees on those who are staying/leaving; purely to ensure stability.

Last season our pre-season was nothing short of a shambles, we effectively took an Under 23 squad. A successful season is often based on a good pre-season as it gives teams a chance to hit the ground running and find early form. Especially in a team where multiple signings are made as it ensures that the team gel and get to know one another. This obviously applies to us so it wouldn't hurt to take the fullest squad we can in order to mould our potential starting XI into a successful unit.

This casts doubt about George Thomas re-signing. I'd say he will play on the right of the front 3 but saying that he can play right wing role comfortably.

Looking at his goal scoring stats he gets a few from headers.

Really good signing this

Another good signing I think. A little concerned that he seemed to miss a lot of games last season through injury though.

Reading a Rochdale Forum, they seem to think he is likely to be OK in League 2. He was a shadow of his former self (apparently) after his injury last season, and League 1 may have been too much for him, thus a parting of the ways acceptable to both.

This may be his final 'pay day'. He may be fucked by injury and be a complete hobbling disaster, but let's hope not eh?

Fucked by injury and a complete hobbling disaster is quite a step up for us here at the City.

It's only two players we are yet to hear from isn't it? Thomas and Haynes.

Turnbull and Beavon have a clause, but any player could hand in a transfer request and we would probably sell them (because you don't keep unhappy players, nothing to do with Sisu before anyone starts), so we aren't really "waiting" on them any more than Willis or Stevenson, until the window shuts they could still go.

Evening all

Thought I'd share my views on big Pete as someone who has watched him play for the last four years. In short, you've got a good 'un, both on and off the pitch.

He has largely played on the right of a front three, but also played right midfield, centre forward, right back and central midfield. Keith Hill likes to have a few 'Generals' on the pitch, and Pete was one of them. Integral in our promotion from League 2, he then scored something like 13 or 14 goals in our first season back in League 1. As his size will indicate, he is decent in the air and sometimes looks a bit cumbersome with the ball at his feet, so a traditional winger he ain't, but a damn effective one. The last two season have been disrupted with injury, missing something like 4 months of last season with an ankle problem. He will probably be the first to admit he hasn't performed to the level he would expect over the last two seasons, so a move to League 2 should do him the world of good.

He is a workaholic and a bit of a pest: he always seems to be able to pick a fight with an opposition player even if he only came on as sub 30 seconds before.

Off the pitch he does more than his fair share of charity work and is a gent to talk to. I met him a couple of times when he came into my place of work and he let me chew his ear off about Dale for over an hour.

All the best, Pete!

Aren't we all!?

You can have Donal McDermott or Reuben Noble-Lazarus if you want: in their heads they think they can score 20 a season

Exactly what I was thinking. Seems a very similar player.

I don't know why people don't like Andy Rose. Got in the box, and was about the only player that would move around and lose their marker and get to the ball in set pieces.

Rose was popular with and valued by his team mates in contrast to how some contributors here and elsewhere feel. Be interesting to see how he gets on this season

I didn't mind Rose, I liked how he would try and sneak in at the back post to get onto crosses whereas our other midfielders would be looking at their boots on the halfway line.

I really hope next season with a few leaders and battlers we won't get bullied on the pitch and we will be the ones bullying.

Vincenti will piddle all over league 2 provided his trick ankle holds out. Quality goal scoring midfielder, good from set pieces, versatile across a number of positions and a leader on the pitch. Exactly the kind of player we need.
