Those tickets are already massively discounted though. Fair play that he’s tweaked the number of games that can be missed after feedback (surely no issues with that now) but I’d rather they focus on having FZ resell tickets as cheap as possible than refunding. That would mean those with kids that have missed out on a ST or those with kids that can’t go regularly, can at least get to some games at discounted prices. Would be good if that’s the plan

Just doesn’t feel right to ask someone to pay full whack elsewhere when they’ve already paid for an adult and child ST. The adult will be sitting on their own somewhere random, just feels like some system that when they give in their two ST seats they get a voucher for money off a ticket elsewhere for that game would be fair.

Listening to him his feeling is those who want to take kids, tickets should be available in the FZ through the ticket exchange. I’m not sure how that will work as surely they’ll be random singles around the place? But then he said you won’t be allowed in without kids so if it’s a dad and lad on a weeknight can the dad not go alone?

Needs unpacking that

Really? That’s poor but not surprising.

Perhaps the club would be interested in seeing the views of this forum prior to the meetings they have with @Sky Blue Pete

I agree, if they don't do this then they are basically asking an adult who sits in the FZ to pay twice for any game that their child cannot attend. That adult may not bother going at all to those games in that case

It’s a bit of a nightmare isn’t it
Adult ticket should be replicated elsewhere and both tickets go on exchange

I get what he’s going for, but the reality is weeknight football will always have fewer kids. So I really doubt that even if he achieves compliance the resulting seats are going to be taken up by kids.

The problems come from the pricing strategy overall making it so worthwhile an adult getting an adult and kids ticket there even if the kid never goes. IMO he’d be better off having a smaller FZ with adult tickets slightly cheaper than the cheapest elsewhere when bought with a kids ticket that makes it more expensive than the cheapest elsewhere. Then the adults that turn up all the time are paying close to full whack anyway, and there’s a minor deterrent for getting a ticket that will never be used. Then just accept there’s fewer kids at weeknight games.

Ideally there would be some way to buy season tickets for weekend games only that would appeal to a lot of dad and lad fans as well as those that live away, or have particular work patterns (could even have a weeknight only ticket for those that work weekends), but that would require knowing the fixture list up front and even then cup games and postponements can mess things up.

Would be good to get the club to look at this specific use case though. Split families are more common now and dads wanting to take the kids when they can but not being able toncommit to a given amount of games up front won’t be unusual.

Doug has made it clear that an adult can’t turn up without a child and get entry to Family Zone and they will crack down on it.

That seems entirely reasonable.

That seems to be the trade off for dropping the number lower. Hope they follow through on this so that ultimately we end up with families that want to go to games getting the tickets rather than people who see it as a cheap route to their season ticket

Yeah, I get you. I suppose the thought process is an adult taking a kid ST cost into the equation, has paid 100-150 less than normal adult prices, so can buy some singles and still get in cheaper than the cost of a standard ST.

This is all about dissuading adults from buying FZ STs without the intention of taking kids or going regularly though. If adults go without kids it will leave loads of singles which makes reselling to an adult and kid harder, so trying to encourage them elsewhere with a small discount makes sense.

Logistical nightmare but can see what they’re trying to do

It’s not a trade off, it was always the case that an adult shouldn’t attend FZ unaccompanied by a responsible child. Just not enforced.

Needs more clarity. Really should at the very least be a discount on a standard ticket equivalent to 1/23 of the ST cost IMO

Why when the tickets purchased are already hugely discounted so that the adult ticket is £230 cheaper than a standard zone ST. That would pay for quite a lot of single tickets during the year. Of course, I haven’t seen full details of the ticket exchange.

I’m not sure you can use a carrot to stop people gaming in the way we think some have.

Thanks for replying. I guess the difficulty there is it probably works out cheaper for my mate to now have a ST with us but then the cost of a junior season ticket there is ridiculously overpriced so it will screw him again. I get that the deal in FZ is currently great value for him (as long as they both go, which they do to 90% of weekend games) but the alternate options for sitting anywhere else for children are ridiculously overpriced. Feels like something has to give.

If the kid can only go to a handful of games wouldn't it be better for your mate to get a season ticket with your group and then buy his kid a ticket when he can attend?

Got block 13, and most importantly, aisle seats.

Genuine question. Can we still mooch in from the casino entrance and walk round, or is there a barrier after block 14?

The real answer here is to scrap the FZ, and police the shit out of kids tickets. I’m guessing they decided that’s basically impossible to police.

Can you not move your season ticket for individual games? Thought you could go to the ticket office and do that but never needed to myself so maybe got that wrong

very true. think people forget we ended up in this situation because people were taking the piss and using kids tickets week in week out

even as soon as they announced the change people were openly talking about how to rig the system so they could get in cheap and even now we've got people talking about scanning tickets of people who aren't there to try and get round the rules

don't seem to get this shit at other events. people buy the right ticket and sit in their allocated seat, never really understood why this is such a problem with football

My daughter will miss games. She gets ill and sometimes gets left home as a punishment. Plus she has a school trip and holiday with her mom which is at least three games missed.

Having to buy full price for those few games plus a couple more when she can’t make it means I may as well just buy full price in standard zone. Saves the pissing around last minute to get a ticket when she comes home from school with a cold on match day or whatever.

Seems to be a bit OTT tbh. The initial revision made sense. I’m sure those paying full whack will have no sympathy, and that’s fair enough.

Ha ha.

It's a lovely problem to have.

A few years ago I sat in a different seat for nearly every home game (and sometimes different seats after my half time pint).

Couldn't get away with that now.

Part of the idea of the FZ was to ensure premium seats weren’t occupied by heavily discounted children, thereby increasing overall revenue.

Yeah I think that’s the actual answer and what I’d do if I was still doing the same.

I can just see people doing that, Doug seeing empty seats, and something like stewards checking on certain seats being empty and not reported or something stupid.

Yeah but most of the ground isn’t premium seats. They could still charge more in the PZ, but really what most people want is to buy a ticket in the bit of the ground that suits them and not be butt raped on the kids tickets as half the time they can’t be arsed or are ill or it’s a school night or whatever. It shouldn’t be beyond the wit of man to both serve those needs and stop coked up dickheads rocking up on an U14s ticket then boasting about it on social media.

Looking at the seating plan most of the premium seating is now season tickets anyway so not sure if this is still an issue but you could just exclude certain blocks from FZ pricing

I'm really hoping some Family Zoners move with the new rules as I'd like to go from 32 to 31. Just being a bit more central than I am at the moment would be preferable.

I shouldn't have limited my comment to premium seats, it really was all seats. I can't remember what junior tickets cost before the FZ, but it would have been very significantly lower than the adult price even in a standard zone. The FZ was intended to give kids a reasonably priced opportunity to watch the Sky Blues with an adult. Problem is that the adult price should never have been discounted, opening the area up for abuse.

TBH I am astonished that Doug hasn't realised this and increased the adult FZ price to address the issue. Could any adult have reasonable grounds to moan if they were paying for a full priced seat for themselves and only £50 for an under 14?
