Coventry City have sold nearly 400 season tickets as they prepare for their second Sixfields campaign.

They are well ahead of schedule compared to last year when the decision to play their home games 35 miles outside their home city was not confirmed until July.

This time tickets have been on sale for six weeks, with prices pegged and City offering a new travel season ticket to ferry fans to Northampton, and supporters are being tempted with a weekly prize draw to take advantage of the cut-price ‘early bird’ offers.

The Sky Blues went into last season’s first home fixture against Bristol City having sold fewer than 500 season tickets, around eight per cent of the corresponding figure at the Ricoh Arena 12 months earlier.

They pulled in between 1,400 and 1,500 home fans for their Sixfields games with visiting supporters bumping the average attendance to 2,287.

The highest gate was 4,905 for the Boxing Day League game against Peterborough United and the lowest 1,214 for the FA Cup tie against Hartlepool United.

And the figures have a direct effect on Steven Pressley’s ability to recruit a competitive squad.

His budget was slashed by over a half to around £2million last term and he has admitted that will be trimmed again this summer, forcing him to be even more aware of value-for-money when he identifies his priority targets.

A club spokesperson said: “We are quickly approaching 400 season ticket sales and that is bearing in mind that, at this point last year, tickets had not yet gone on sale.

“While most are renewals, several fans who have signed up to season tickets this year didn’t do so at all last year.

“We know that the temporary move to groundshare has been extremely difficult for everyone, none more so than for our supporters.

"To that end, we reduced season ticket prices for the 2013/14 season and they have been frozen for the new campaign if fans buy before August 1.

" and the figures have a direct effect on SP's ability to recruit a competitive squad"

In other words it's our fault.

That's cause and effect sisu. If your that concerned about the effect change the cause.

Oh, and it's your fault sisu. Don't blame the fans.

How many of the 400 "sold" are for club staff and reps?

"Temporary groundshare". Other than a photo, a year on, any evidence of that at all ?

Laughable isn't it? That's the word that stood out for me too!

A photo would actually be good! A computerised image of complete fabrication in madeupville is hardly sufficient progress 12 months into a 3 year plan.. Oh wait didn't the small print say 5 (after they'd hoodwinked the football league?!)

"And the figures have a direct effect on Steven Pressley’s ability to recruit a competitive squad."

Well, 2.5k in Northampton or 12k in Coventry. Hows that for a "direct effect"

'And the figures have a direct effect on Steven Pressley’s ability to recruit a competitive squad'?

It shouldn't. Didn't SISU assure the Football League they'd fund any losses associated with the move? Or doesn't that include lost income and the net effect on the quality of the playing squad?

Indeed, how was any such promise ever going to stand up in the face of FFP? Given the biggest expense is player salaries, which will reduce in proportion to income according to FFP; wasn't any such commitment a straw man? More shame on the Football League's governance of this farce

I'd say around another 400.

At the Ricoh season tickets usually made up about 50% of the average.

“We are quickly approaching 400 season ticket sales and that is bearing in mind that, at this point last year, tickets had not yet gone on sale."

Just how pathetically ptiful a statement is that when you look at it.

Talk about spin. I know there is not a lot else they can say, but trying to make the sale of just 400 season tickets into some kind of positive shows just how low we have sunk as a club.

400 season tickets. Did we ever think we would see the day?

If you were going to buy a st at Northampton then presumably you would do it before the deadline so that you were put into the prize draw.

Therefore 400 is likely to be close to the final figure imo.

Well, what a surprise!!! We have sold more tickets now than when they were unavailable last year - who writes this drivel? What logic do they use? At times, it's laughable, but these are the people running our club.......sigh.

Less than 400, what does that mean, 150 fits that description? Why don't they give a precise figure... marketing bollards maybe?

Or 400 people taking a punt on whether Otium will still be in business, perhaps.

Politics aside - if I was buying a season ticket, I'd be using a credit card for some or all of the purchase so that I had some protection if it all goes pop over the summer...

Who cares Robo? If it isn't at the Ricoh I don't care whether it's 50 or 5000. I won't be going.

Yes it agree with that. Almost 400 well is that 355 as that's still another 45 to get to 400 which could take another month.

Also the absolute garbage these people talk it must be for their amusement. "400 isn't bad as they wernt on sale last year" Deary me yes season tickets go in sale in may not decide a ground share in mid July and then sell them.

How many of the 400 are either locals, staff, free or discounted?

As commendable as that is and how I find myself agreeing with your reasoning, I am still interested to know, baring in mind that not every other fan thinks along the same lines..

But the vast majority do agree with King. That's why Sixfields is an eerily empty place on match days.

I would imagine most season ticket holders going to Sixfields would have decided by now if they are going or not, and would have got it early to get the offers! At most it will double.

Oh dear, you've been sucked in. The compensation being you'll be "liked" by Spion and the others, so at least you'll have some new "friends" on here.

Yes of it's almost 400 now then surely people buying one would of bought one by now. So probably close to 500 will be the end figure.

How many were sold last year? I can't remember.

For the record I do respect people's choice to go as I told "Coventry is my faith" he is an honest poster who dislikes sisu and doesn't want to go to Northampton but wants to support our team. Fair enough.

I still think we will be at the Ricoh come start of August somehow. (I don't know how) this nonsense can't continue from all sides.

If the JR goes agianst SISU-that means they can't get their hands on what they came for.

The best option (for them) then is to liquidate the club and all those that have purchased season tickets will be out of pocket.
Oh dear what a shame.

Yeah, brilliant <highfive>

The club you support will be liquidated and fellow fans who just want to support their team will be out of pocket.

Be like Christmas, won't it? They'll be parties long into the night across the City.

Fingers crossed.

Fuck me, that's some statement coming from you.

And yes, there is a need because it's not the fault of 400 people that Coventry play in Northampton. It's down to around 6 people in suits.

The club I support does not really exist anymore. The franchise in Northampton has nothing to do with either me or Coventry if it does then please enlighten me to what.

You better tell all those that attend away matches then, I don't think they realise.

Oh, and what are you doing on here then? This site is for the Covhampton Sky Blues Soccer Team (unless we're at MK Dons and Arsenal) and ACL/CCC fans only.

Really? why is that some statement from me? Strange how you didn't pile into CC4L for his post but you include it in your rant about it to me when I didn't even say anything about the 400 season tickets. Just about sums you up of late.
