Not writing the season off at all. Perfectly possible that we could still scrape into the playoffs right at the end if we finish strongly. If we start clicking and reshuffle a bit in January we could easily go on a good run when it counts the most.

No. The league is still close, we’re only 9 points off the top 6. And our best forwards are out.

EMC - Wright - Sakamoto front line could shoot us up the league.

We do need to put a run together now though.

9 points but they also have a game in hand. We know that 6th will be around 72/74 point mark. That's 44/46 more points from 22 games. We can't even put two consecutive good performances together. We probably can only afford to lose another 2-3 games

Mathematically it's possible but not with these bottle jobs.

To put it in to context our play off season we had 34 points from 24 games, we'd have to better than fantastic run by 6 points.

Best we can hope for is a good two or three additions in Jan to end the season successfully and get a top half finish - giving us a platform to build on in the summer heading into next year.

Feels like it doesn't it? Especially in the stands. All very 'meh'

Let's be honest. We aren't going to trouble the top 8. Maybe get a top half finish if we have a decent January. Play offs is no longer achievable unless we suddenly turn into prime Barcelona (no chance of that with this lot)

However, we clearly aren't shit enough to go down. I was worried about that until we played Hull and Plymouth and seeing just how shite they are made me feel very confident we will be ok

Have you written this season off yet?

I've accepted we arnt going to be challenging the top 6, but we look safe from being dragged into a relegation scrap, which looked likely at one stage.

So I'm not expecting any great atmospheres for the rest of this season unless we recreate last years cup run.

I'm also not expecting any loan signings this Jan, as why would Doug pay for something that's not going to help us push into the top 6 or generate any sell on fees.

For me it's more about Frank getting to know his "Deck" and finding out who he wants to keep and who to replace

I think we need a major turn over of players, but it's a worry how many we can convince to go.

Nope. Mid table by new year. Relegation fears shown up as idiotic. Seasons not over let's see what else we can do

After todays performance where yet again we dont know how to break down a team that put everyone behind the ball and come for a draw I cant see this current deck being anything but a mid table side.
All very good playing possession based football passing it around the back but lack of ideas when we get to the half way line but it doesnt get us top six and our midfield is just not creative

Really I’ve been in there and it’s like a morgue. No singing , no shouting or passion. People don’t get off their seats when we score. It’s Fucking boring and lifeless as if they’ve been told to tow the line or your out . The best thing is you can get served quicker at the bar .

Saddle I appreciate your insights I genuinely do. But you aren't half a drama queen.

Everything is always so dramatic. We have fallen short this season, that's why MR has left. We are naturally going to go through a transition period, it's got better even if it isn't the free flowing football we would all want, we definitely seem on the right path.

It's not easy to get it right and unfortunately we seem to have failed somewhat so far, but it isn't the biggest cluster fuck in the world, we are a steady championship team, A couple of signings could transform this team and have us at the top end next season. Fine margins as I said in the match thread earlier, let's give the young team the season to develop, add some more quality over the next two windows and go again.

Hell, miracles happen we could yet go on a crazy run to the play offs.

I don’t think the season’s over but Pompey and today have been very disappointing, especially Pompey.

Am I right in saying that’s 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in FLs first 7 games?

11 points from 21…not PO form and we’ve had arguably an easy run of fixtures.

I guess we can hope for continued improvement in some players, the return of Wright and the fact that this years league seems more open as anyone can beat anyone.

I’ve not given up hope of sneaking a PO place but it’s going to take a barnstorming 2nd half of the season and continued weird results in the division.

Oh, and some decent incomings in the transfer window. Always have faith.

11 points from 21 is very much play off form - that would put us on 73/74 points across the season, and we were 5th with 70 points two seasons ago, and Norwich had 73 points last season in 6th

Not yet, but getting close. I guess we'll know more in January with how teams strengthen. If Frank gets says 3 or 4 players from Dean and Doug to push on then a good run of 5 wins from 6 and we'll be back up there.

In terms of play offs I believe it is over given the lack of points gained v poor teams. In terms of the longer term, it isn't over. There is so much to work on and my hope is we can gradually demonstrate an ability to show some consistency and that we can get some break through players or form returning. How much progress can the likes of Bassette and Mason-Clark make. What calibre of players will be added etc.
At this point I would be pleased to end up in the top half.

Yeah, might as well call it this year. We will finish 12 +/- 3.

Fingers crossed we have a bit of a run that will give us some belief for next year.

No great expectations, but I haven't written the season off.

It will be interesting to see how the new regime beds in and hopefully kicks us on.

"Season over," seems to apply to a lot of one dimensional glory hunters. Who have no real appreciation of football and the monumental tasks involve in success.

I know what you mean about that phrase but isn't there only really one dimension? If you're not trying to get playoffs, what's the point?

For us it is different, considering the changes. It might be "season over" in that aspect but we need some hope for next year. A lot to fight & cheer for in that aspect.

I don’t think it’s over but at this point I would take as close to mid table as possible. As previous posters have said the major disappointment is if we had beat half the dross at home like Swansea derby and Wednesday to make just 3 we would be in and around play offs. A season of a missed opportunity and we don’t have a top 6 deck (sorry Doug) but we should be too much to go down.

Let Lampard have a look and give him a summer window at it. The trouble is we will have to sell this summer but hopefully not a major over haul.

Who says we aren't? But you have to build from where you are and what you are.

The mantra of we will finish in top six has a short shelf life unless you are in a sniff of the top six.

Fans seem to be confusing an intention with a promise. Let's face it practically every team in the Championship intends to finish within reach of the top six.

So on a full season over 87 points? Enough for top 4 last season.

So it will be the MR section of the season that damns us.

Just to validate I guess.

Lampard has 11 points out of a possible 21. 21/11 =1.90.

We have 22 more games this year so 22 X 1.90 =42 (rounded up).

42 + 28 (current points) = 70.

Seems plausible that gets you top half. For context his Derby side point per game was 1.67

Maths seems ok to me. Some people don’t like the obvious conclusion. Doesn’t make the maths questionable though.

Failure to make playoffs will be down to Robins tenure, not Lampard‘s. No matter how successful Robins and Viveash here for a long time. They should both have gone when Adi left, simple as.

Oh boy... where do I start...

He said 1.9 points a game. No idea what you are working out there goblin but he has been in charge 7 games. 7x1 = 7, 7x0.9=6.3 so he would need to have scored 13.3 for that to be correct. You should be doing 11/7 which is 1.5ish... Odd that you'd all make the same mistake though unless I am reading it wrong in which case I am going to look very foolish.
