With O’Hare out for the season & Walker injured a lot of the time he was just back up bit of insurance.

Desperation, given the players out at the time and the lack of availability of players during the January window - unless you're willing to spend above market rate, which we aren't/weren't in a position to do.

Apparently Maguire was popular and a pretty positive influence around the dressing room so I wouldn't call it that much of a waste. Realistically he was never going to start. He was brought in to provide temporary cover and he did just that.

Fans are under the illusion that every first team signing is brought in to stake their claim and be a success when in reality that's far from the case. Some are brought in just to plug the gap when necessary.
