If its a 6 month contract then its absolutely fine and probably what we need until the end of the season when much more players should be available to choose from

If he's out of contract there in summer you think a free transfer would make sense, but then we've loaned out Kane and Waghorn who are in the same boat so who knows
After his spell here you’d think Waghorn might need to take a pay cut at his next club, perhaps he was keen to see the contract out

This is a free swing, nothing to lose with this deal, contract until end of the season. Nothing but low risk high reward signing that gives MR and Doug time to get the right people in the right places come summer. . Experience on the bench that gives squad depth is never a bad thing. He will no doubt want to bust a nut to get a contract as well. Low expectations that doesnt harm the group.

Happy with him. Adds a little pace, which we don't really have.

It's a smart move considering where we are with the squad and the forthcoming summer rebuild.

I would rather have a short tremendous thing like this than money spent on some kid for the beer 23’s that we will release in a couple of years.

He did do a better job than Waghorn, and for less money.

You guys can do your "I'm a good fan and won't criticise anything" shtick but I'm not going to be sorry I'm unexcited about us signing a striker who hasn't scored from open play in TWO YEARS.

Waghorn HAS a better goal-scoring record in the championship

On the face of it, he looks like someone who’s here to offer an occasional plan B and take penalties if he happens to be on the field at the time. So basically another Waghorn, but younger and presumably cheaper.

I doubt he will be that cheap salary wise. He agreed a two year extension with Preston and they have a reasonable wage bill - £23 million last season

It's more of waiting to see him play a few times for us before judging him.

Equally it could be were paying half his wages and Preston are paying up the other half and everyone’s a winner.

He doesn’t have to score TBF, depends how he adds to the overall team. O’Hare barely scores and he’s vital to our attacking play!

Gives us an option off the bench at least , and if the last few games are anything to go by, that is a vast improvement already.

Viks stats weren't amazing when we signed him, neither were McNulty's. I trust Robins enough to decide if a player has the attributes he's looking for.

Just to play Devil’s Advocate:

1. McNulty dropped down a league to join us and already had a double digit goal scoring season in L2 with Pompey

2. Swansea played Gyokeres out of position on the wing and most of his appearances were off the bench.

You are not limited to 5 loans just can only have 5 in matchday squad. His contract is up in summer - who knows a deal to sign now might be worked out by the clubs.

Honestly think SBT vibe check should be part of the recruitment process. Correct 50% of the time 100% of the time.
