Scunthorpe United have dismissed manager Ian Baraclough after losing 3-0 to bottom club Preston North End.

Baraclough confirmed his sacking to BBC Radio Humberside after clearing his desk at Glanford Park following Tuesday night's defeat.

A statement on the club website confirmed Baraclough and assistants Steve Parkin and Kevin Pressman had been relieved of their duties.

Baraclough took over as manager in September 2010 .

He had previously spent seven years at Glanford Park as a player and coach. Former Scunthorpe and Burnley boss Brian Laws is the early favourite for the vacancy.

Although their form has picked up in recent weeks with victories over Nottingham Forest, Swansea City and Sheffield United, last night's defeat left the Iron third from bottom of the Championship, four points adrift of safety.
