Just seen on Twitter that at 3-2 Argentina were awarded a penalty against Scotland in the dieing moments of the game.

Scotland GK saves to keep them in the competition only for VAR to rule a retake. This is said incident:

It's gone too far now, right?

Its getting over the top.

The amount of goals being disallowed after the celebrations is just ruining things.

Pedantic I guess and harsh, but isn't her foot supposed to be ON the line, not just hovering over it?

Technically, it was the right call, but it does seem harsh to be that precise.

VAR is supposed to be for clear and obvious errors, I'm not sure a lot of the decisions its being used for really come under that category.

I agree.

I do think though, on first viewing it looked a lot worse and she seemed to be well off her line.

Once they saw that I guess it was hard for them to reverse that first thought process, because technically she was still off her line, but by the tiniest fraction of a margin.

It definitely should be for clear and obvious errors though, like you say. Totally agree.

It is good to see the women's team following in the tradition of the men's team at World Cups in failing to get out of the group. To tease us all by going 3-0 up and then throw it away with the help of VAR is taking it to a new level and they should be congratulated. Maybe if they had just let Argentinian take the penalty instead of delaying it as long as possible they may have had more time to try and win the game or even more probably lose it :happy:

I did think Scotland's game playing and off putting when the penalty was awarded was petty and embarrassing.

I would like to see anyone booked who approaches the penalty taker, be it defender or goalkeeper.

Notice on the second one for France how many players are in the box before it’s kicked!

I think keepers should refuse to save a retaken one when it’s so close to force FIFA’s hand. If you are going to be so strict on the keeper you have to be strict on everything else. Foul throws, 10 yards etc etc and would you want Var to call all of them? It’s ugly and nonsense and is causing the game to be in disrepute

Also pathetic that the keeper is booked for moving early. Imagine in a penalty shoot out, or a retaken penalty - keepers could easily pick up 2 yellows. It would make a mockery of the game. That said, I'm sure they said it wouldn't apply in the PL next year. Odd - different rules for different competitions???

Perhaps we should have the rule they can leave their line as soon as a player starts their run up. At least it 'd stop those stupid Pogba-esque stutter steps bollocks,

That’s not a bad idea. It’d happen once and it’d be enough to stop it.
