Saturday demo is a protest NOT a boycott (2 Viewers)

This issue on Saturday keeps being highighted as a boycott by some thicko journalists in the local media aswell as mis-informed former Cov managers such as Sillett and Gould. It is a visual protest designed to catch the larger media attention. Most of those taking part will have bought a ticket or will pay on the gate and are SACRIFICING 15 minutes of that ticket price to protest. Only today on CWR did I hear for the first time the morning presenter Shane something or other mention that most of those protesting will have bought a ticket.

As for John Sillett jumping on the don't boycott bandwagon it's a bit rich for someone who probably hasn't bought a ticket for 30 years and Bobby Gould for that matter.

I obviously respect John Sillett for helping to bring our biggest moment of glory, but unlike many i also remember Sutton United and Northampton Town !!

Thought Claus Jorgansen was fair in his assessment this morning on CWR. Said how else could fans show their feelings and so long as peaceful had no problem with it. Lack of supporters at kick off could work for or against and players had to get on with it

Thats another point, PEACEFUL, that seems to be conveniently forgotten by our local press. We all know what football fans can be like we saw in the Derby fixture what spontaneus protest brings, people get themselves thrown out, arrested, fined and banned. This way hopefully stops that. BUT that could well be the next thing the more you talk to fans, lapsed or otherwise, and i know 3 who don't go anymore going to the demo, the more angrier they seem to be, there will be a straw that will break the camels back i fear (remember that Everton fixture) and it isn't too far away IMO.

I think that it's meant to be a boycott and was banded around as such. The 15 minute thing was not meant to be the main idea.

You think wrong. The last meeting decided to do a protest as described the subject boycott came mainly from websites and the local press. There are some who will protest and not go in but a lot of them are not going to ANY home games whilst SISU are involved here.

Agree with oldskyblue a fair assement of the situation unlike the CWR report regarding the protest / boycott. Some will be boycotting some protesting and still going in.

According to the telegraph poll only just over 30 % are going as normal, the rest will either go in late or not at all.

Sadly I think Sillett is out of touch with the feeling of the majority of fans. The timing of his award as a president of the club and his dimissal of the protest / boycott could be construde as ass licking.

I would hope it was just naieve on his part

Sums up the bloke in my eyes, no need to say anything and if he felt he had to he should atleast go public on his opinion on how the club is being run, if he is in favour of the current way fine but he should say now that he has put his head above the parapett

On the original interveiw he ducked out commenting (towing the sisu line maybe ?)by saying I don't get involved in off the field going ons, thats not my concern what concerns me is getting behind the team etc or words to that effect.

CWR only seem to want to repeat the parts that seem to be against the protest.

Well done Jan you came across very professional and as a reasonable person showing that those who who want to protest or boycot are not some kind of idiot thugs looking for trouble

Thats a side benefit its about raising the public profile of how sisu are running this club into the ground and how they have mismanaged their investors funds

how can everyone paying for a ticket and going in 15 minutes late result in a side benefit of SISU not getting the money

They aint getting 1p more off me until they are gone, its that simple, no home games, no shirts, no gnomes etc etc.

We aren't all going in I'm not and according to the poll on here 27% are not going in the majority aren't going at all.

They have only sold 5000 tickets so far, not sure how many southapton have got, I think its about 2000, so only 3000 home tickets sold!

Protest is not about starving SISU of money as the campaign might have put say 2000 people of going = 30,000 in revenue of which cov only get 45% (FA Cup game) so its £13,500 - in the greater scheme of things that drop in income isn't going to make an iota of difference to SISU but the negative publicity and highlighting the terrible job these financial geniuses have done in squandering £37 million of their clients money might.

Take away the protest, thats a piss poor amount of tickets sold, does this indicate that a lot are not going who do not come on here and are behind the protest for this one match? Or have people had enough in general of what is happening with the team and results?
Will we see gates declining over the next couple of months?
Maybe those going in after 15 mins want their ticket stubs for when we get to the final.ointlaugh:

Club is claiming that they are expecting total attendance of around 7000 with 2000 coming from Southampton. Last season we played Crystal Palace on the back of 4 defeats and a draw and managed to attract 8162 with only about a 1000 coming from Palace so that is around 2000 down or around 25% - anyway you cut it its significant.

They will try to put a positive spin on this. The groundsman, reserves, youthteam, corporate sponsors, players, management, stewards, away fans, probably even the police will all be counted. I reckon they will claim the crowd close to being that of last seasons at the same stage to show that it has had no effect.

I just hope that all those fans who have purchased a ticket can remain out of sight and watch on th emonitors in the concourse until at least 3.15. Please if yo're going in, spread the word and get people out of their seats by kick off and join in downstairs.

Good idea Rob even if it's 500 or so it will still have some impact on what the crowd numbers appear to be and if shown how empty the ground will look, although it is going to look empty anyway.
Problem is will the empty ground be shown let's hope something is said about what's going on, and why the ground is lacking fans.

I can not make it for saturday's protest as I simply can not afford to come back at the moment. I am 100% behind the protest and will be with you in spirit. I can come back later this month and will do anything i am asked to do from then, to get publicity for our plight.
I really hope all goes well and peaceful ,and if i could sell my bloody house here in France i would be with you on this occassion and many more in the future. I pray that by the time i sell up, the name SISU will no longer be connected in any way with our beloved and treasured club.

Myself and 3 that come with me will be both protesting and not paying for a ticket. Anything we can do that's to the detriment of SISU we will.

When Brinner started the whole thing off I'm sure he said "boycott" rather than protest. And, let's face it, if fans aren't going in for 15 or for the whole game then they are boycotting the match or just a quarter of an hour of it.

I'm also not too sure why some are getting so uptight about Sillett and Gould. They are part of the fabric of the Club and have voiced their opinion like everyone has on the issue.

As they say opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one.

I think rather than uniting fans against SISU all the protest/boycott or whatever you're calling it this week is just resulting in turning fan against fan and fan against previous managers.

I've lost count of the amount of comments regarding Sillett/Gould and sly digs and those who are attending or going in after 15 minutes.

Sigh.

Torchy - its human nature that whenever you try and do or say anything there will be some in favour and some against and sadly some people get too polarized and blinkered to see the other persons point of view and end up resorting to abuse. It happens all the time over the most trivial matters. Personally I don't see JS or BG as SISU stooges or anything like that, just feel they are out of touch with the supporters, probably not in possession of the full facts of the protest, its aims etc and have simply answered a journos question. Its their opinion, not one I share, but I respect their and anyone elses right to hold a view that's the polar opposite to mine - it is after a free country and that is why we have the right to protest.

A boycott is an act of protest, it's not like the two terms are mutually exclusive. You do like to get worked up over the little things, ER.

I agree. Not going into the game is a boycott. If they WERE going in and holding up banners then that would be a protest.

I can't see what all the fuss is about regarding what the "event" is called.
