Hey! Being an iOS user, after a bit of advice from Android users, ideally ones familiar with Samsungs.

Just got dad a new phone. Set up his gmail email app for both gmail (which he never uses so won't need, but obviously needs the link for play store etc), but also his hotmail. Think he'd find it easier to use just the 'email' app, as he uses his hotmail account more often and running two may cause confusion.

So anyway (to the point....). I'm trying to remove his hotmail account from the gmail app so he's not getting notifications of emails twice over.

Doesn't seem to be a remove / delete account option, even in the 'manage accounts' section.

Am I missing something glaringly obvious?

Hang on? So you have the hotmail app and the gmail app?

You could just turn off the notifications for thr gmail app -> settings --> notifications-> turn off gmail

I have the default ones; gmail and 'email' (little envelope) and have stupidly set up hotmail on them both would prefer it be one account on each (think he'll just get confused having the two accounts in the one app, although I could just make his hotmail one the default account I guess?)

Have a look in Settings > Accounts and see where the Hotmail account is showing and you should be able to delete/remove it from there.

IS he a drug dealer or a pimp?

You should get him another phone One for his hotmail, one for his gmail!

On a season note, you should be able to go into settings and then accounts to remove it.

It is a new phone. And I think it'd be a poor pimp or drug dealer if he communicated via email

I've tried through settings and found the 'manage accounts' part that mentions about deleting accounts, but takes me back to the original settings screen. Think I'll just have to turn off the notifications for that app and pretend I never did it ha

You could just keep them both in one, and just have it so you can see the combined inbox?

It hasn't got a dodgy thing where you have to go into the list of accounts and swipe / hold down on it to prompt for a delete option has it?

I think that would just be more confusing as he probably doesn't even know he has a gmail account.... Wish I'd thought this through before setting it up ha!

Tbf, you get no choice when you get an android phone, if forces you to have one.

Here's the official guidance!

You can't remove accounts from within the app.

You need to go into the main Settings option, then click Accounts, click into the relevant App/Google and then select the relevant account and in the More option (in the top right of the screen) select Remove Account.

I think I may have, somehow, managed it. Even before I posted this I think! How silly do I feel!

No idea how it happened, but I now only have the google email in gmail app, and Hotmail in the email app.

Feel free to close the thread now Nick

Glad you got it sorted....a smartphone's no use to a dealer anyway. Leaves far too much evidence
