Read a post on another site suggesting our Sammy could be more influential out of the defensive diamond role and into a more advanced position as an attacking mid.

Thinking about it it might just work - he has good ball control, passes well and has a thunderous shot all these attributes would be more suitable beyond the halfway line - why not.

He has the right attributes, technically for sure, but mentally he has a more defensive mind set, therefore if u played him at the top of the diamond he would naturally drift back.
Pure speculation on my behalf, but its what I think wud happen.

He has the skill to play higher up but it is weather he can adapt his mindset to that position. He tends to dwell on the ball alot sometimes and plays the game at one pace/tempo all the time. He would probably naturally keep coming deep which will leave us with no one in that position and overcrowded in other positions.

Seems along the same kind of lines as people saying Richard Keogh should play as a winger because he liked to get forward and do little fancy turns.

Yeah change of role is what he needs. Put him on the bench, he's crap and a hypocrite.
