Really not sure about this, If he picks the right back room staff and picks players on merit and form rather then reputation he could do well
On the other hand we have an international manager who is famed for beating relegation and in some cases dour predictable football

More than happy with Big Sam. Only really two other sensible options. Hope he does end up bringing Howe into the set up too.

Completes the former City quartette for the home nations too.

Excellent appointment.
Annoying that some are letting his unfair reputation cloud their judgement, probably the best English manager around at the moment.

That bloke Noble in West Hams midfield will be the first to be called up, he loved him.
Two giant centre backs who lump it fifty yards every time they get it will soon follow plus a bloke who can only do long throw ins.
The first training session will be how to dive as close to the penalty box so our game revolves totally around free kicks ,that will be launched into the box so Andy Carroll can leap like a constipated gazelle to head it 9 times out of ten forty yards over the bar ,in the hope he mis-heads its down just that one time towards goal.
Allerdyce wil stand waving his arms on the touch line blaming every fucker else why we lost 3-0 to Andorra whilst chewing five packets of gum at once.
OMG don't we ever learn, if this fails watch Tony Pulis be the next up for a go

Sam Allardyce's Sunderland side didn't anything like that last season. Neither did his West Ham side during his final season there. Have you actually watched one of his sides play in the past few years or are you basing all this off 10 year old stereotypes?

You need to ask West Ham fans what they thought of Allerdyces football, I know quite a few and they hated it.
He was roundly booed every match, and that famous video of them booing him even though they had just beat Stoke 2-1 says it all.
Did Sunderland play long ball stuff, course they did, watching them on tele was a torrid way to spend 90 minutes, but I'm not going to ask their fans as I hate the bloody club for obvious reasons.
If you don't think he's a kick and rush long ball Neanderthal you must of had your head in the sand the last two decades.
I hope it proves me wrong, but him and Boothroyd are a long ball ,dead ball specialist through diving dream team

Who would you have picked for the job, Rev?

Plays technical well drilled football and has a decade and a half more experience than the last time.
As shown in the Iclandic game that most players couldn't even do a 5/10 yard pass, hardly any of them could control a football and at the back through midfield and going forward we were clueless.
Hoddle IMO would put this right over four years.
He was only sacked last time for a rather poor comment about disabled people, but I think he's served his punishment and should be given another chance.
I just don't think we will win a Euro or do well in the World Cup with long ball football in hand with a dependency on dead ball free kicks that Allerdyces bases his teams on.
As I say it my opinion and I hope he proves me wrong, I wouldn't be happier if he does

Fair and honest opinion there, Rev.

But I hope Sam does prove you wrong! ;)

What benefits do you think Eileen Drewery brought?

I would say Hoddle would be OK as a Coach, but he can't be in charge.

Pulis not being English would bother me more tbh. Big Sam has played that way as he's had to. If he's got quality players at his disposal who's to say his tactics will be the same. Give the bloke a chance!

We haven't won a world cup or euro in 50 years, we have not reached a semi final for 20 years, we've had hoddle, Keegan, capello, hodgson, Sven, McLaren, etc. We've had a mix of technical and possession managers, managers who played exciting football at club level, managers that had won domestic and European trophy's, managers that talk a good game on the TV, managers that had a wealth of experience and international experience, we've had disciplinarians, we've had passionate managers, we've had a wally with a brolly, we've had the players mate, we are no further forward than we have been in years. Football has moved on again, this year was the year of the defensive counter attacking sides as opposed to the tica taca.

Would allerdyce be my first choice? No, but I can't see him doing any worse than the lot that have gone before him.
