I've just listened to the 4th Southampton fan in 2 days on R5's 606 singing our praises. This one was the best yet, as he went into detail about how he remembers well when they were set to be bought by SISU (and he actually named them!).
He went on to explain that he'd not been able to get a ticket in the home end, but as a Saints fan from Coventry, he went in the away end. He said our fans were fantastic, generated a brilliant atmosphere, and outsang the biggest home crowd of the season. He didn't get any hassle whatsoever. He ended up getting caught up in the atmosphere, singing along with the City fans and joining in the anti-SISU chants.
So, a thank-you to Southampton fans at a moment when most would have understandably been concentrating on their own glory. As well as those on the phone-ins, we've had several on here sympathising, too. But what's particularly great about those on the radio is that they've used the platform that promotion has given them (-obviously 606 are taking more fans from Saints fans than usual, and probably aren't interested in calls from Sky Blues fans-) and used it to highlight not only how great our fans have been in the circumstances, but more importantly, to highlight the situation our club is in, and the damage that has been done by unscrupulous owners. How very different their past 3 seasons could have been if they had accepted their SISU bid has not been lost on them!
I heard that bloke on 606 too. He was great. In fact everything I've read & heard from Saints fans has been good in the last couple of days. Big respect to them. I'll be keeping an eye out for Southampton's results in future and wish them well.
If only the Beeb gave us air time it wouldn't take others to spell it out for them. Won't forget all the Saints fans coming up to shake my hand and wish us well from leaving the stadium to being on the train back. Brilliant group who put their Fratton neighbours to shame.
Always been a good bunch those Southampton folk. Remember when we survived our last game of our first season in the old Div1 by goal difference at the Dell. Was there and they were great to us that day too.
Brilliant read on that link! Recommend that everyone who was at the game yestarday should read it all and feel extremely proud of the way you were all accepted by the Southampton fans and I personally would like to thank you all for being our representitives on the day! Well done guys!
No problem HH I felt like the most popular man in Southampton city centre afterwards with everyone shaking my hand-one guy even got his 5 year old son to tell me how good our singing was
