I do hope that If this comes through clubs do not try and charge the same as Is for sitting ,which I think they currently do .

I've not sat down at a game for about 3 years anyway, when we nearly got kicked out at Forest for refusing to sit.
I'm all for it.

Not for me. Retrograde step. Gives the hoolies an inch, they'll take five miles. Back to the lovely 1980s, no thanks

Safe standing is far different to the old terraces. There's actual seats within the railings, but they fold up to make it safe to stand.

Coventry fans stand up at every away game non stop, needs to be introduced.

If they had it at the new stadium, it would help me decide whether to go or not!

the hoolie firm's were sitting in the seats in the 80's when terraces were still there don't think it will make much difference if any, trouble at football is hardly prevalent anymore.

Yes if thats what fans want. The problem was not standing in itself but over-selling of tickets and poor policing.

very good point. without trying to sound controversial, there was a lot of fake tickets at Hillsborough.

Thai, why do you think violence is not around much these days? Seating and CCTV, that's why. You don't think it's because hoolies have reformed surely? They're just waiting for a chance.
CCFC92, I give my honest views and you abuse me, what's all that about?

because of your points like you've said said to Thai, it just sounds like you assume the majority of fans are hooligans. look at yeovil and brentford away, terracing, no trouble whatsoever. as you've put, the cctv has prevented fighting, that's why it's organised well away from the ground.

Well you are half right. It's because of CCTV and certainly not to do with seating. It's to do with the risk of getting caught, not wether or not you are standing. Besides, most hoolie stuff moved away from stadiums years ago.

also, just to be clear, it wasn't abuse, it's more a complete disagreement with your point. so apologies if you took it that way.

I do think the rail seats like are used in Germany will one day be approved. One of the reasons atmospheres are crap is because the people who want to sing etc cannot all get together. Rail seats sold on an unreserved basis would mean people can congregate in the areas they want to stand and sing. Years ago when we had the cop you could get your ticket and your mates could get theirs at anytime and you knew you could still all get together on a match day. All you need is a small group getitng the songs going and then people will move towards that group as everyone wants to be part of it.

There is no reason standing cannot be safe, its bad policing that caused the problems. People stand at gigs dont they rarely problems there.

Not sure if some of you guys were around in the 70s and 80s? It was horrible. So many fans turned away from the game. I don't believe people have got better behaved. Probably worse. No, I don't believe and never said most football fans are hoolies, they're not. But a percentage are and given an inch will really take advantage and spoil it for everybody. In an ideal world there should be room for standing, but it isn't an ideal world.
Standing would bring back all that was nasty and horrible about the game.
Now with safer stadiums games are better for everybody. Compared to the 80s, with terraces and fencing, the game is light years better. Bigger crowds. Just look at attendances in the 1980s - very low. People used to die at football games.
No, definitely a no from me. Would imagine most would be against it.

But what has standing really got to do with hooliganism?

Sorry Spionkop, I don't agree. Yes I was around, and yes it was dodgy but I just can't see how you directly connect sitting down with improved behaviour? Please explain?

i think he means, if everyone has a designated seat, it's easier for crowd control?

but personally I'm pro terracing :slap:

But unfortunately when shit kicks off nobody involved is sitting in thier designated seat anyway! And fans who prefer to stand generally do anyway! CCTV and harsh treatment of offenders are all we need to avoid a return to the dark ages. Terracing will improve capacity and atmosphere with, in my opinion, no detrimental effect whatsoever.
