if we brought that much pyro to a game the SAG wouldn't let city fans within 3 miles of the ground for about the next 3 years

They had to stop the game at one point as there was literally a thick cloud over the pitch and no one could see.

It’s cool for the countries that have a tradition of this stuff but it always seems a bit forced and artificial when you get “ultras” over here.

It depends. I think the first thing that comes to mind is the 'fight and win' USA supporters. In that case yes definitely. We have some good fans though. Could potentially have a really decent section if the stadium planners put their minds to it.

Looks like it's going to be a reliable survey - my mate who is a Leeds supporter and never had anything to do with us got the email.

Yes, I agree that the 'animation' or 'ultra' section needs to be by the away fans.

I just think having a corner is a bit pathetic. Our stadium has four sides. Every best atmosphere in a stadium across the world has always been with a section behind a goal in my experience.

People have got used to the corner and they're comfortable with that. That doesn't mean that it's the best way to do the stadium layout however.

It looks from the survey that the away fans will always be more or less where they are. In which case that does make things a bit more difficult. It's a sad situation really and means the stadium can't reach its full potential.

The acoustics are far better in the corner than other parts of the ground.

The ideal scenario will be the set up like Friday. Noise from the corner and South Stand.

The North Stand will never ever be home to an atmosphere. It was horrendous in the first few seasons when the noisy fans sat there.

In modern stadiums, atmosphere doesn't always come from behind the goal like traditional stadiums. Even Stoke fans have moved from the historically noisy Boothen end towards the corner by the away fans.

Swansea, Plymouth and ourselves are some of the noisiest stadiums in this league and their two sections are in corners. Wednesday fans have moved to the side stand in recent years. The Ipswich 'ultras' have moved away from behind the goal and the embarrassing Leicester mob are pushed in a corner.

My mate's cousin (who's a Bolton ST holder), got one too.

To be fair, he bought the first two tone top through the online club shop, because he has family links to Coventry.

He's obviously ended up on a club database of some description.

I don't want to stand up during a game. If the people in the row in front stand then I would have to.

Answered. Singers corner. Said I'd move there even though I probably wouldn't because I think it makes them more likely to do it.

I know there's differing opinions on what should be done now with the south stand but I would like us to preserve singers corner somehow. It's a part of the new history we've made and continue to make in the Robins era.

The reason it was horrendous was because the stewards/police made a concerted effort to get people to sit down in the "Telegraph Stand" as it was then.... at the time the majority of former West Terrace fans were in there, however in a bigger stand they were more diluted and mixed in with "normal" fans who were happy to do what police/stewards told them to do.

Within a couple of games it ended up with just a handful of rows stood up at the back and trying to create an atmosphere, and yes it was shit. However i don't lay that blame at either the fans or the area of the ground.

Controversial but surely that's what blocks 14-16 are for? Hence the safe standing. I think the demand is there for 3 blocks worth of fans wanting to stand.

Which part?

It's a pipe dream. The North Stand would only ever attract any atmosphere if the away fans were moved to the corner down that end.

It's mental that we are even debating it when we have, for me, the best atmosphere in the league alongside Leeds. It's definitely declined this season though.

No, they're not FOR people to stand but many in those blocks DO stand. I don't and neither do a lot of others. We are on the periphery on 16, so we might be OK, if that area is chosen. I've sat there for years, so I don't really want to move.

Yeah, I totally get you. I hope they do install safe standing in the entirety of those blocks just in case.

It's not comparable but the entire row in front of me in 15 stay silent all game. It just surprises me that they want to be in the corner when the view is pretty poor.

If they did only put safe standing in Block 14, it would be near impossible to move there if you wanted to be in the section as it's sold out to season ticket holders currently.

Wouldn't disagree - not necessarily the ground per se, but the group in the corner seemed to amplify disproportionately for the number there imo (plus they sang with a bit of aggression, defending their right to molest sheep)

I remember going there on Boxing Day in the 00s when they were throwing coins at Doyle (?). They were seriously loud then. We didn't make a peep all game. Dreadful game.

Got to be near the away fans for me … if I remember rightly QPR safe standing , complete opposite corner from away section

seemed pointless when they were trying to create an atmosphere

Where have I said it should be in the North stand? You're reading my posts and drumming up counter-arguments for something I haven't even said.

The best way for the stadium to live up to its potential is to have a standing terrace in the south stand with the away fans in the corner. As it looks like the away fans won't be moved, we are stuck with a corner. That's weak. Doesn't matter how you try and drum it up.

Can someone explain the point of safe standing to me?

It makes a situation like our corner safer. That's it. It recognises a reality - people want to stand at games, and are standing at games every week. Opposite of pointless.

Why just the corner though? People stand in all areas of the ground at the top of the blocks.

Because that's where everyone stands. I can't answer for what the club do about standing in other areas, but they're not about to put rails in odd blocks where people stand in the last couple of rows.

Why just the corner though? People stand in all areas of the ground at the top of the blocks. Am I correct in saying you can still sit in your seat even if you’re in the safe standing area? Why not put these bars in front of every seat in the ground in that case?

I’d be in favour of a return to modern terracing (like that used in German stadiums) because this would increase capacity and genuinely improve the atmosphere (more people = more noise), but this type of safe standing? Seems a bit pointless. Fixing a problem that’s not there.

Since the abolition of the standing terrace in this country, how many people have been seriously injured by standing in front of their seat? Most injuries (shin bruising) happens right after a goal, and the entire ground stands up when that happens anyway!

It is definitely safer. People do get injured quite often falling down seats.

It's generally more comfortable too.
