Please let's just all put this pathetic "Rivalry" to one side. There is no rivalry, other than a bunch of idiots, who the vast majority of probably don't even know who Jimmy Hill is, trying to cause something out of nothing.

For what it's worth I think Coventry are a decent club. You play some good football, travel in numbers and generally seem a decent bunch.

Also, please don't take what you read on the SMB as a true representation of the average Sunderland fan. We aren't self entitled, don't believe we are too big for the Championship and most accept where we are, but are just happy to be out of that god awful league (League 1). We've had a crap 5 or 6 years and finally look to be on the up.

The ticket allocation I think is, largely in part, due to a minority of idiots in your support who decided to throw stuff at the fans below during your last visit. Again, not to say that's your fanbase as a whole, every club has it's knackers.

The piss taking about you not selling your tickets is more tongue in cheek at your manager claiming you could have sold 10k if given them. Made himself look a bit of a tool there.

It's going to be a tough season for us this year, mid table would be a huge achievement for us, but avoiding relegation has to be the main aim. I think you lot will be in and around the play offs from what I saw of you last year.

All the best for the season lads, just hope Sunday is a miserable day for you all haha. Let's try have a good atmosphere between the fans come Sunday...nothing worse than a manufactured rivalry between 2 decent sets of fans.

As with most message boards, the most extreme 'hang 'em high' posts tend to get 'noticed' more.

Are you sure you’re a Sunderland fan?

all joking aside, there is no rivalry, just dickhead fans getting rowdy with eachother. Most of the fans I have met have been entitled and all that so I will have to take your word for it that they aren’t especially considering you dont seem to be. Good luck withyour other 44 games that dont involveus.

Unless this is Greggs playing again…

Regarding tickets, think they would have sold out if they were on sale for longer. With the first batch selling out prior to general sale I think a lot have committed to other options (for example, there is a screening of the game which a lot are going to). Also think a lot didn't realise they were being taken off sale yesterday (which still seems bizarre in 2022). Then you have the commonwealth games locally, the women's Euro's final which some are going to (myself included) and the fact it's on TV. Lots of contributing factors. Think if tickets were on sale earlier it would still have easily sold out.

It’s embarrassing from both sides. I’ve been to plenty of Cov v Sunderland games long before this “rivalry” and it was no different to any other game.

The internet has caused fanbases to hate each other more and for little reason too.

When I was a kid I respected other clubs so much. Now as a teacher all I see is kids saying how much they hate every single club other than their own.

It's quite sad

If there was ever a reason for people to dislike Burnley and hoped they'd go down it was the way they sacked Sean Dyche.
I really didn't think he deserved that and now they've got a Billy Big Bollox in charge giving it the big I am.

When you lot came here and when I went up to SoL I had plenty of chats with sound people in your fanbase.

It's mainly social media bullshit, we have our idiots all about the place but RTG is absolutely insane.

It did kick off that first game at the arena but it was literally about 4 idiots on both sides chucking rocks then 40 idiots on each side pretending to square up behind police.

I get the bottle chucking but that was your first season in L1, in our promotion season we got a bigger allocation than we did now.

I think Sunderland will stay up this season but I worry that Neil will bring in his Prison style of play that will just about do the job but be fucking awful to watch week in week out. The championship is a fucking tough league and it took us a solid half season to adjust.

I'd be careful about criticising other clubs grounds when we don't even own ours!
Especially when they have sold more season tickets than we have seats.

Surely the worst thing that happened to Sunderland related to Coventry is we sent Astute to their forum - that’s going to cause a big reaction in years to come

Has anyone ever had to explain to a non-City fan why the 'rivalry' exists? I have had to do it a handful of times and feel a huge sense of embarrassment that I have to say it 'started back in 1977, and then disappeared for four decades....'

Cant stand the way your fans talk about our club ..which is what created the issue in the first place ..

However I do respect that sunderland are a very big club with a huge fanbase and great history ..

But on paper we should put you to bed Sunday,
our team is better than yours on paper and the only way we don't is if we don't play well ..

All the best

I get what you're saying mate, but again you're looking at members of a football messaging board and not genuine Sunderland fans. RTG is a strange place, with some weird and wonderful characters, but in no way at all represents our true fans.

You'd be hard pushed to find a real Sunderland fan actually slating Coventry, or most other teams for that matter, it's just that the internet brings out the very worst in people and can show a completely incorrect representation of a fanbase. RTG, in forum terms, is pretty huge, so we do attract a lot more nut jobs than most other forums.

Appreciate the comments on the amount of season tickets we have sold tooo, it's been pretty impressive this year, I just hope that we can back it up on the pitch. Only time will tell I guess.

If you lot can keep hold of your main players I can easily see you top 6 by the end of the season and I won't begrudge you that. Plenty teams out there I'd rather see fail than Coventry that's for sure.
